The Rehabilitation of Elizabeth Lambert

» NYT: Those Soccer Plays, in Context (Jere Longman)

I'd been wondering when one of the MSM outlets would get ahold of Elizabeth Lambert for an interview. Now we have it. What I like most about the effort is that it doesn't show Lambert trotting out a blanket apology for all things physical. There are some clarifications in this report that at least a couple of the "highlights" were not quite as they seemed ... one of them being a case of mistaken identity (she wasn't the one kicking the ball into the BYU player's head).

Even better ... this article, and possibly even the defense of Lambert written by a former UNM team captain, suggest that her standing in the program might very well be reinstated by next season. I'd like to see that almost as much as I'd like to see UNM back on the schedule for a return visit to Rice. What I think will be interesting is to see if the spark of publicity adds or subtracts anything to the fan base. Or, perhaps in the case of Rice, if it just means the M.O.B. will do a very special halftime show for a women's soccer game.
