Election Post: Virginia Assembly
Placeholder for the numbers about to trickle in. I'll have one post each for Virginia Assembly, National races (incl VA statewides), and another for Houston & Texas elections.
In this case, the incumbents are noted by italics and any relevant 2007 or 2005 contest information is noted below. As you can see, these are among the most hotly contested State Assembly races going on in Virginia this cycle.
UPDATE (12:15am): I didn't really want to bother with New Jersey Assembly races, primarily because I view it as a mafia state. but I suspect there may be a smaller view of what unfolded in Virginia. Below, you see the update on a 5-seat swing to the GOP. Those seats highlighted in red represent a GOP gain, blue represents a Dem gain. The two seats with the winner bolded represent an incumbent hold. I suppose the usual caution deserves mentioning about recounts, provisional ballots and all that jazz. But don't be shocked if all the results hold from here on out.
It's worth noting that the list below was taken from a National Review article listing of competitive races in Virginia. Naturally, there were some that didn't make the Republican outlet's list. The exceptions aren't enough to undo the overall trend, but here's where they are:
District 35 - Dem hold; 50.7-49.2, Mark Keam defends
District 44 - Dem hold; 53.4-44.9, Scott Surovell defends
District 52 - Dem pickup; 51.9-47.8, Luke Torian over Rafael Lopez
District 64 - Dem hold; 50.7-46.7, William Barlow defends
