I said after the Chronicle poll was released that I felt the best move was for Gene & Annise to tend to their base and get cracking on it. Apparently, Team Locke did not see it that way.

Mind you, I don't think there's any names on that list that are overly egregious. Heck, I count one as an associate. So other than the double-listing of Burt Keller, I won't gripe with the list itself. What I do take issue with is that this is the approach Gene sees as his path to victory. Since I'm suddenly curious about internal polls, I can't help but wonder what Team Locke is seeing about their name ID among African-American voters.

Between getting 80-90% of that vote and whatever West Side, Hispanic, Anglo Dem and Anglo Republican vote scraps are left, that's ~25% of the vote and a good floor for the runoff. Finding one's self at 13% and wondering how well a black guy's gonna pull from GOP hardliners? Doesn't strike me as the sane thing to do. We'll see who comes out looking the wiser on Election Day, I guess.
