Peter Drops Mail ... on the Internet, even!

Me, back on the 9th of this month ...

And while we're at it, I'll voice my hope that some enterprising campaign (or two, or three) will also place PDFs of their mailers on their websites ... again, both positive and negative. Since we're dealing with an election that is destined to be a low-information election in a very critical time, I don't think it's asking too much that campaigns do what they can to extend their communication efforts rather than hide them.

Credit where it's due ... the Peter Brown campaign, yesterday:

As a fan of political mail, this is certainly on par with some of the better mail work I've seen locally. The content is at an appropriate, albeit light level of detail for campaign material. But it does direct readers to his more detailed plan online as well as to SocNet links on the back page.

If there's one minor criticism, it's that the piece emphasizes the November 3 election date, with no mention of early voting. I realize there's a real estate issue at work here - any EV mention will detract and muddle somewhat the point that E-day is on November 3. Beyond that, many of the 30% of Early Voters are likely to vote early no matter what level of information is conveyed about early voting.

But I'd be surprised if all three campaigns take the same approach Peter does here. In Annise's case, you've got the busiest EV location right on the fringes of her strongest geographical area of support. In Gene's case, you want to drive up the vote in African-American precincts as much as possible - the more options, the more information, the better.

For now, it's an intro mail piece for Peter. And as far as that goes, it looks good. First mail pieces are generally the easiest. It will be interesting to see where they go from here. And it will be interesting to see when other candidates actually start communicating with voters outside of the forum & fundraiser circles.
