Peter Brown Ad #2: Blueprint
New video keeps rolling out. This is Peter Brown's second ad of the campaign and the other two candidates with money haven't put up ad #1 yet.
As far as polished, political spots go, it's pretty good. I can't help but notice how Peter has yet to actually talk to voters in his ads. This is the same voice-over as the first ad, but the visuals are a bit stronger.
On the whole, I think this should accomplish whatever Team Pedro wants to accomplish - show Peter as a smart guy with good ideas. While I personally think the blueprint theme is overdone, that probably has more to do with my junkie-esque intake of political communications that compares very negatively against the 1000 people living closest to me in my precinct. I don't doubt the theme will help Peter stand out a little.
We're now a few days beyond Labor Day, so it's time to start wondering exactly when Gene and Annise will go up on the air. Peter goes so far as to put his radio spots on the campaign YouTube channel. I hope other campaign will follow suit ... and extend that to even their negative ads. And while we're at it, I'll voice my hope that some enterprising campaign (or two, or three) will also place PDFs of their mailers on their websites ... again, both positive and negative. Since we're dealing with an election that is destined to be a low-information election in a very critical time, I don't think it's asking too much that campaigns do what they can to extend their communication efforts rather than hide them.
