Flipping Albany

Strange things are abuzz in Albany, where two Democrats voted with the Republican caucus to change control of the State Senate from D to R. The NYT is speculating that recent voting in the body over same-sex marriage may be a factor. Wait and see. If nothing else, the move should be indicative of how fragile narrow majorities really are.

The next lessons may be on display in Virginia (with thin D majority in the State Senate) and New Jersey (with an incumbent Governor who starts the campaign as the underdog).
