Next-to-last NFL Note for the Season

Yeah, so Super Bowl XLIII is set as Steelers vs Cardinals. Not quite the biggest incitement to clear my schedule for the game.

Of more interest is the situation in Philly. McNabb should be negotiating a new contract soon. I'll be shocked if he doesn't get something out the talks. It's hard to see the team giving him nothing and calling his bluff that McNabb will void his contract (as is his right).

But giving him anything - particularly a new deal with a fat signing bonus, means Kevin Kolb would be looking at a longer term on the pines. Complicating things is that Kolb's net performance so far (such as it is) hasn't exactly screamed "Play Me!"

So ... how much longer is Kolb watching McNabb on the field as his understudy? Well, there is a rumor that the new coach of the Rams is hot for the Eagles' QB Coach Pat Shurmur . I don't have a clue what Shurmur thinks of Kolb, but it's suddenly of a great deal of interest.
