The Day the Campaign Ended?

Quinipiac numbers ...

"It is difficult to find a modern competitive presidential race that has swung so dramatically, so quickly and so sharply this late in the campaign. In the last 20 days, Sen. Barack Obama has gone from seven points down to eight points up in Florida, while widening his leads to eight points in Ohio and 15 points in Pennsylvania," said Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.

Thank you, Sarah Palin.

Nate Silver adds corroborating evidence that Ohio is flipping blue. As it now stands, Virginia is lost for McCain. If Obama starts E-night off with Ohio and Virginia, it's damned difficult for McCain to catch up. Throw in Florida for Obama, and this one's over before polls close west of the Mississippi.

The deathwatch is now on for Indiana and North Carolina.

Now, optimism aside, there's always room for further twists and turns. Lord only knows who Joe Biden will claim shot at him tomorrow night or if Palin gets to go an entire night while reading from a script instead of letting loose with a few more gems of her personal views on current events. Simply stating the obvious since I'm not going to join the ranks of those who have predicted "inexorable" landslides as far back as 2006. But things are definitely looking good for Obama.

To be fair, he doesn't specify the direction of that landslide. There's some wiggle room here.
