Palin Falling

» PoliticalWire: Palin's Favorability Ratings Tumble

That is some swing for the fences by McCain ;-)

The Newsweek article Goddard references is worth a close read for a sane take on the movement thus far.

I might be promising too much for my weekend blogging schedule, but I'm cobbling some notes together for what's hopefully my single massive take on all four of the nominees just to put my marker down and see where things go after one of them serves a few years as President. Probably no shock that a Dem blogger will vote for the Dem candidate. But a few of the points I feel warrant an airing might not fit the clearly defined partisan boxes.

FUNGIBLE COMMODITY ADD-ON: Via Sullivan, Hillzoy notes a grammatical masterpiece by Palin that simply HAS to be admired:

Today, the person who "knows more about energy than probably anyone else in the United States of America" let slip some pearls of wisdom:

"Of course, it's a fungible commodity and they don't flag, you know, the molecules, where it's going and where it's not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first. So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it's Americans who get stuck holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It's got to flow into our domestic markets first."

I'm not sure I fully grasp that, though I am relieved to know that they, whoever they are, don't have to sit around flagging individual molecules all day long. I think, despite her saying that Congress is "not going to allow the export bans", that she is actually recommending such a ban. At any rate, what she says makes a lot more sense on the assumption that either the 'not' or the 'bans' was a slip than it does on the assumption that she thought that lifting nonexistent export bans would keep our oil here at home.

It seems pretty clear to me that Sarah Palin has no idea at all what she's talking about here.

It sure seems to me that there are folks out there who love to pick apart grammatical foibles by those of us NOT running for VP with the all-important (R) next to our names who might be strangely silent in this instance. I won't respond in kind and suggest that pointing out grammatical errors is an acceptable proxy for intellectual superiority. But I will note that for someone chosen in part because of her energy expertise, statements like this make George Bush seem like Winston Churchill in comparison. Who knows, maybe that's the plan.

TNR UPDATE: Jon Chait suggests that Palin is making Dan Quayle look good in comparison. I'm not sure which is a greater compliment/insult (complinsult?) ... my suggestion or Jons.

VIDEO UPDATE: It's even worse to listen to Palin's convoluted talking points jumble. Hence, I inflict you all with the following punishment.

(via Yglesias' take on the topic)

CANCELLATION UPDATE: Another side of Palin's downfall ... cancelled fundraisers throughout the nation. Her Houston event was nixed and Ike was blamed for it. Plausible, but in light of the other cancellations, maybe just convenient.

Maybe I was being too generous referencing Palin as a pop fly to the shortstop. She's looking more and more like a slow roller to first base that even Bill Buckner can hold onto.
