Sunday's Must-Read: John Heilemann on Competing Memes

» New York Mag: The Meme Prisoner (John Heilemann)

Good read here by Heilemann on the disparity of coverage witnessed between Obama and Clinton. Maybe it's because it's early in the morning and I'm lazy, but I'm not convinced an excerpt does it justice unless I wanted to simply take away one of the several excellent points he makes here. Among them, the fact that the media's depiction of Hillary Clinton bears a striking similarity to what many of us recall of the coverage of Bill Clinton.

Heilemann doesn't got that far back in his analysis, but for those of us politically active well before, say, the Dean Presidential campaign ... the resemblance is there. Rightwing think tanks have devoted tens of millions to advocate the concept of a liberal media. To date, I've not seen or heard one plausible explanation of the Clinton exception to that myth. Heilemann at least puts forth a useful means of understanding Hillary's media disparity.
