DIY Wedding

It's official, there's nothing you can't do at an IKEA ...

The good news for now-newlyweds Paul and Patricia Burgess is that IKEA picked up the tab for their Valentine's Day wedding.

The bad news was that because they were winners of an IKEA contest, the event drew print and TV media as well as friends and family.

Paul seemed bemused by the fuss, which was no doubt made fussier by the presence of the ceremony's officiant, ZZ Top guitarist Billy F. Gibbons.

On a completely worthless sidenote, I've met Billy Gibbons once in my life ... while working at IKEA.

I met him once-- also in IKEA.

It was a totally nuts day-- I found out who was officiating all of 18 hours before the wedding-- after the shock, then the ever so brief horror, we got back to the realization that we were getting married in an amazingly unforgettable event-- on a day that neither of us would forget (with or without Rev. Willy G.

At the last minute the vows/script changed.. as in, we didn't know until the words "repeat after me" in the ceremony. It was extremely quick and painless though.

We thoroughly enjoyed, and IKEA provided an awesome experience-- some thing absolutely fun and unique. Billy F. Gibbons signed off on everything and then signed a round of autographs and took plenty of pictures. We disappeared into the store to jump on beds and play in the kids' ball pit, with our photography crew in tow.

The ceremony was picked up by The Chronicle, KHOU CBS-11, CW 39, and Fox 26.

And yes, you CAN do just about anything at IKEA, but they REALLY frown on jumping on their decorated beds.
