Still With Hill

Just for the sake of putting it on record: I support and endorse Hillary Clinton for President.

Cast aside the already-tired logic of inevitability, change, experience, and hope. The bulk of my rationale comes down to something entirely different.

Perseverance.

Once upon a time, I was perfectly happy surrounded by the plurality of Americans who saw greatness in Bill, but concern in Hillary. For the duration of the Clinton administration, I was never a fan of Hillary's. The bungled manner in which health care proposals were steamrolled through, with promises to crush people like Jim Cooper and avoidance of others like Pat Moynihan registrered deeply with me. Throw in the fact that she opted to work with the likes of Ira Magaziner instead and the matter was only compounded in my mind. Off Hillary would go to the Senate, via New York.

So what's changed since then?

Hillary endured and persevered. I can't quite place myself in an environment where I'm surrounded by people who tried to undo you're spouse's re-election only to find forgiveness and acceptance. I'm guessing few of us could.

At it's simplest, it's possible to just suggest that Hillary has exhibited better political judgment in her Senate career (though obviously the leftniks and Obama Kids will take issue with her Iraq & Iran votes). And that might or might not be enough to sway me in and of itself. But she's shown far better qualities in my mind, with her ability to work with people who would challenge most politically-inclined folk's ability to forgive.

There's no way you cannot suggest that she's been nothing short of an admirable role model on that score.

Obviously, it's also difficult for me to endorse without getting into policy. And to be sure, her shared goal of storing many former administration officials in roles that let them take an active part in defining the Democratic Party of today is just as admirable. And if it's any consolation, if it's Barack Obama that's sworn in, he'll likely still be relying on many of the very people that Bill and Hillary Clinton first offered a national platform for.

With that, I'm still with Hill and that's who I'll be voting for on March 4th. Feel free to make your own call accordingly.

Mrs. Clinton really ought to consider doing the perservere thing again eight years from now. Just like my man John Edwards, this wasn't quite the right time.

Oh, and you have typed a few too many apostrophes in various places.

Did you read this, Greg? Kinda looks bad for Team Hillary.

Obama on Iraq. He was in the Senate last year when the democrats won a majority. Where was his voice in the great debate to cut off funding for the war.
And did you hear that Sen. Obama said Mr. Bush's offenses were not serious enough to warrant impeachment? Boy, what a lefty, what peacenik!
I found this wonderful blog called Shakesville that might fill you in on some of this. They were Obama supporters but have balked on some of his actions since giving his speech at the convention and winning the senate seat.

http://shakespearessister.blogspot.com/2008/02/clinton-vs-obama-no-contest.html

And please go there and click on the links concerning Obama's health insurance plan. He continues to place ads claiming his insurance is universal. Please read how the Clinton plan covers twice the people at half the cost.
I can hardly believe I said that myself. It's at the blog but I know Paul Krugman of the Times has told me Obama's plan doesn't compare to Clinton's.
Please vote for Hillary in Texas!!!

So how much of Hillary is HIllary, and how much of Hillary is Bill? Hillary and her machine were poised two years ago to walk into the nomination with the blessing of the Democratic establishment. Prior to Iowa Hillary was on her own still with a huge National lead. When it started to look bad in Iowa here comes big Bill. Ever since then her National lead has steadily declined until now it is gone, gone, gone. Voters have gotten a better look at her and don't really like what they see any more. They have gotten a closer look at her opponent and they like him better. There are lots of people like you who still like Hillary, but are likely to be on the losing side. The one card Hillary has been able to use is the sympathy vote. She will be paraded before Texas and Ohio as the little woman like your mom or sister in tears and contrite, and plead for women's votes. It ain't gonna work this time.

As far as I can see, Hillary has never accomplished anything except get elected, and that only because she married well (although it takes extraordinary mental flexibility to think of Bill Clinton as a good husband). I see this primary season as a 2-fer: we get rid of both Clintons once and for all. Good riddance. I can't be sure if Obama is what we need, but he is the only choice that gives hope for something more than political hackery.

You go Greg!

You are so right about Hillary. She is an amazing woman and will be a great president.

She's the right candidate to beat McCain. McCain will crush Obama on national security. Hillary was there after 9/11 and did great work for New York. Also, given what we all were told at the time, her vote on Iraq was the only responsible one.

Dale Caldwell said:

The Obama campaign above all sings the song for change. Funny, America was treated to change seven years ago and look what America got!
Having followed Sen.Clinton in the Senate over the years (C-Span) she is extremely impressive. She has the facts that count in the making of good decisions and she displays the great ability to have those facts at hand in her campaign and in the debates.
In one of the debates, Obama pledged to have the troops out of IRAQ in something like sixty days or was it six months, he has pledged both. Sounds good? But had Obama considered as Sen. Clinton put forward, that we must take into consideration the extricating of the one- hundred thousand contractors we have in that country as well as the troops. It was not apparant that Obama had thought of that aspect of such a move and what it might mean in terms of a time line.
This is a detail but no less important. But others, Obama included, are really speaking and pledging without knowing and providing spin, a feel-good condition.
Hillary Clinton speaks with substance. Sen. Obama speaks more in generalities. But it is in the details, the facts, that are essential to producing the best resolution regarding most everything in this world.
Listen to Sen. Clinton! Don't be swayed by hype, by generalities.

Thanks Greg! Right on -- Hillary is the one.

Obama has no national security plan. He talks about sitting down with Iran and bombing Pakistan -- the guy is all over the place. There's no way the majority of Americans who are still anxious about the level of global violence are going to vote for a guy who has no national security experience and doesn't even have the facility to discuss it wisely. Americans have already gone through the experience of having "experienced people surround the nice guy president." It doesn't work very well.

I wish Hillary was less militarily conservative, but at the same time I know that she has the resolve, the stamina, the grit required to be calm, and clear in a time of national crisis. She won't go to war unless it is the last resort and absolutely necessary. But if we have to, then she's the one I want as Commander in Chief.

I am deeply concerned about the recent primary results. How can so many people even consider selecting a candidate that offers virtually nothing but a lot of "hot air"! Obama acts like a cheerleader at a football game! A lot of rah! rah! Nothing else. Have our citizens become so enamored that they actually believe the empty promises he is making? Without considerable help from members of the House and Senate, nothing he says could possibly come to pass. Fairy tales, indeed! The very people who are flocking to the polls for him, will be left behind. His promises will turn into nightmares for those gullible enough to believe his speeches written by others. Why won't he debate? Because the answers have to come from him..not written by his speech writers..that's why!

I encourage you to support Hillary. We need a president who will MAKE changes not simply TALK about them.

Greg, thanks for writing this. There are many people who are still VERY supportive of Hillary. My own reason is: Obama has NEVER been to Iraq. Hillary has been to Iraq multiple times and met with military leaders, thus she knows how to pull us out of Iraq SAFELY. Secondly- Obama is always bragging he voted against the war in Iraq. Let's examine that. At the time of the vote, the Senator's had intelligence reports that nformed them Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. There is NO way that Obama could have known there were not weapons there Thus-- he voted AGAINST protecting America. Think national security- and vote Clinton. I am all for peace, but I want a President who will protect our great lands. HILLARY 08!

People are excited about Barack and his empty promises. He is still wet behind the ears and we do not have time for him to grow into a presidency. Hillary is ready and will be accepted by leaders all over the world as she is already known to many and has a good rapport with them. it amazes me to hear Barack and Michelle speak of yes we will make mistakes and we will need your help. HELLO dude when you make your mistakes the only help we could really give would be to not vote for you again. Ye holds awesome pep rally's but if but some strange reason he actually won the nomination the Repubs would run all over him and we would once again have 4 more horrible years. Greg,

Thanks, Hillary is the best one for the job.

I live in Austin, Texas. I am a Hillary supporter and I am also nervous. For several weeks I have been saying that our country is falling for the same tactics that got Bush elected. Bush used "fear" to get elected and Obama is using "hope". All based on feelings. The people around me at work, are voting for Obama because of how he makes them feel, that he is a uniter. This truly scares me and I don't understand my fellow americans anymore. I don't know about the rest of Texas but I do know that Austin is very liberal and Obama is winning based on the people I come in contact with. I believe the only person who can turn our hopes into reality is Senator Hillary Clinton.

With all that being said, I did find some hope from a friend. She always voted republican and this time will be voting for Hillary. But, if Obama wins, she will vote for McCain. She believes that Clinton and McCain would be able to get things done based off of experience and connections.

Go Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband, sons and grandsons and I support Senator Hillary Clinton. The media ,led by Chris Matthews, has been relentless in the unfair attacks on her and President Clinton. I admire her stamina and her wisdom. Obama seems like a nice young man with a "gift of gab". Sadly, he has never been tested and we don't know how he would stand up to any attacks. He is very ambitious. He runs against Washington, D.C, yet asked for all sorts of help in order to get there. He even asked for President Clinton and Senator Clinton's help. I don't trust anyone and would not vote for anyone who turns on friends like that. He says he was against the war in Iraq, but he wasn't in the Senate. Who knows. Senator Clinton is right to want to debate Barack and Barack is showing cowardice by being inwilling to do so. I thought he wanted to go talk to the leaders of Iran, yet he won't debate Hillary. Not my kind of leader...too, too inexperienced for my vote.

Excellent analysis!

How can one even compare a proven, experienced, well-informed candidate (Senator Hillary Clinton) with Senator Obama, someone whose track record is absent and positions are a copy of those of Clinton. He has had no positions of his own. When he presents "new" ideas, they are ideas Clinton already presented months earlier. Can he be an effective president if he cannot have ideas of his own?

I am concerned that if Senator Obama wins the nomination, many Democrats will vote for Senator McCain. Many Democrats want the country's problem to be solved, not the drastic changes Obama advocates in his rallies. Moreover, his political views are not truly known. Given this, the ease with which he can inspire enthusiam and euphoria in a crowd is more a cause for concern rather than a plus.

I CAN UNDERSTAND THE PRIDE THAT IS IN YOU TO HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT AND I CAN UNDERSTAND THE FEELING BUT IF YOU CONSIDER THE GOOD OF OUR COUNTRY AS YOUR FIRST PRIORITY, THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT TIME FOR HIM. Obama is a talker and Hillary is a doer. HE's making promises that he can't keep and wouldn't even know how to try to keep. Its great to go to a rally and do the "wave" but how about actually listening to your candidate and really evaluating their plans. Obama keeps changing his plans to match Hillary's, so much so it seems as though he may be taking her ideas and trying to make them his own. Wonder why he won't debate Hillary in Wisconsin? Obviously because he can't answer specifics about his policy because they are not even his own ideas! He may unite the country with his moving speeches FOR A SHORT WHILE, or we can vote for Hillary and feel united when our country is doing well, people have jobs, access to healthcare and America gets along with the rest of the world! There is nothing like prosperity to unite America and Hillary can deliver! YES SHE CAN!

Really enjoyed this! I am particularly fond of endorsements that come from people who previously opposed Hillary. The willingness to open yourself up to someone that you previously disliked.. well that's incredibly mature and open-minded (ack, was that hyphen uncalled for?)

The thing that really won me over to Hillary's camp was reading about her experiences as a Senator for a very conservative constituency. She won them over in an ugly election, impressed them enough to be re-elected handily. I was impressed with her work on behalf of the ailing first-responders of 9.11, and on behalf of our injured troops.

I know that many people have projected negative traits and motivations on her, without realizing most of it was media conditioning, as they know nothing of her real character. The people I know that worked with the Clintons, have nothing but kind things to say about her, and her warmth and integrity.

Good for you for being so darn open-minded (oops another hyphen!)

And now black super delegates are leaving Clinton for Obama -- this election shows more about us as Americans than I think we all realized. She has a greater chance to beat John McCain. Her husband as a president
in the 90s was way better than Bush past and present. The economy
was better in President Bill Clinton’s year, over 22 million jobs was created
vs 5 million on the Bush administration. So I would say having Hillary Clinton
as the president would be better than any other candidate. She has the vision
to put back America in strong economic growth including health care and
reduce the deficit and debt and create surplus to our nation. Hillary cares
for the children of our future and make America the best in the world again.
I suggest people of all colors to vote for Hillary Clinton. Most black people
vote for Obama, why not all white people vote for Clinton. There are 80%
white in America, I think you should considering voting for her. She is smart,
She has the experience than Obama who has not finish his term yet as a first
term Senator. While Hillary Clinton had been there twice as elected two time
Senator in New York. White people should do their homework and research
about Hillary’s resume. I think she can prevail to be the Democrat presidential
candidate. Hillary Clinton will deliver results for America. Go Hillary, we need
a woman for a change after over 200 years of men becoming a president.
First Woman president is definitely a biggest change if she becomes the
president. I think this is the change we need right now. Please vote for

Obama always talked about change, what change will he be changing, As far
as I’m concern Hillary could change things and way better than Obama.
I don’t think Obama could change things overnight and I don’t believe things

Note about Obama’s wife, I heard on the USA Today that in the past job she
had that she accepted a raise for over her annual salary from $150,000 to
over $300, 000 in the medical field she was working for and that some patient
in the hospital are not being accepted due to this greedy raise. This is a true
story and find it out from usa today.

One more thing about Obama, he has said all along that he is AGAINST
the WAR in IRAQ, but he voted for funding war on Iraq when voting in the
congress. What does that tell you, he lied to the American people. Do your
research, all this are true it’’s recorded on the congress. Don’t be voting

lie to American people

LESSONS LEARNED:

Massachusetts learned the hard way. Let’s not make the same mistake.

Massachussets elected a young, charismatic, inexperienced and unvetted candidate Patrick Deval governor. And it has been an utter disaster. He was unprepared for the job and has made a mess of it.

For the whole story see: http://www.thecjpoliticalreport.com/deval_patrick_a_cautionary_tale.htm).

Patrick, who happens to be a friend of Obama’s, ran the identical campaign Obama is running, and it was conducted by none other than David Axelrod (Obama’s campaign manager). These are Patrick’s words:

“It’s time to put our cynicism down. Put it down. Stand with me and take that leap of faith. Because I’m not asking you to take a chance on me. I’m asking you to take a chance on your own aspirations. Take a chance on hope.” – Deval Patrick

Patrick won on his charisma and his campaign slogan. The Media played along. And Massachussetts bought it – Patrick won in a landslide,

America made the same mistake with President Bush. He was the charismatic candidate. People liked him. He was going to be a “uniter not a divider”; he was going to change the tone in Washington. But when Bush got to Washington he was overwhelmed, he was unprepared for the task and as a result – well you know the result.

If we had elected the other guy – the boring one, the one who talked substance – we’d be in a lot better situation than we are right now.

If we were a large corporation, USA, Inc., looking to hire a CEO, we would scrutinize Obama’s resume, we would want to see that he had the right kind of experience to be able to handle the job. In comparison to USA, Inc., being a state senator is akin to running a small single-state business, a dry cleaner for example, maybe a string of dry cleaners. It’s not the same kind of business and it does not afford the same kind of experience. The prospective CEO for USA, Inc. would have to have worked in a large international company at a high level for a good part of his career – at a minimum. Serving as a junior Senator for a couple of years, most of which time, Obama has been running for president, wouldn’t even get him an interview. And here we are thinking about making him CEO because he asks us to take a leap of faith?

And no, the way Obama has managed his campaign is not an indication of how well he’d handle the presidency. It’s an indication that Axelrod’s strategy in Massachusetts works at the national level. The campaign is Axelrod’s genius, not Obama’s. It’s the identical campaign that Patrick ran – down to the details.

If Obama wants to be president, he should get the experience he needs first. He is not ready. He is not prepared. He is not proven. He is not vetted. He does not have the experience he needs to be president.

Don’t do it Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Hawaii, RI, America. Don’t’ buy the rhetoric. Look to the substance. Don’t take that leap of faith. The risk is too high.

Massachusetts learned from its mistakes. It did not follow the Kennedy’s and support Obama, it went for the experience, vetted candidate.

Let’s learn from Massachusetts mistake, let’s learn from the Bush disaster; Vote for Hillary.

We don't need a Hawk like McCain that scares people, but we do need someone that is credible on national defense. That would be Hillary. She serves on the Senate Armed Services committee, and is considered smart on defense. No so Obama. He has been compared to JFK, but JFK was a seasoned war veteran....and served twice as long in the Senate. Hillary isn't a hawk like McCain, but she comes across as tough and
knowledgeable about the global hot-spots. I don't think our enemies will be intimidated by Obama at all....they may actually be emboldened.

MY vote in Texas is for Hillary! She is the best candidate - solid, tested, brilliant!!!

RIGHT ON AL MONROE! Wow, you really have been paying attention to EVERYTHING:)

I'm sick of hearing the argument that Hillary voted to allow the use of force in Iraq and is thus not qualified for the Presidency. BS! She voted for the resolution because she understands the power of COERCIVE DIPLOMACY. I suggest some other politicians who are weak on national security matters look this up. Hillary is the best of both worlds - protection, security, civil rights, healthcare, economic brains, and the heart and elbowgrease of a WORKHORSE!

I am so concerned about the country and I wish for once the citizens of America would vote for experience. I believe that a president must also be a leader who educates the citizens on the issues. It is the only way to successfully cause change. Senator Clinton has great strength in this area. When you hear a Clinton speech, you come away more knowledgable.

I do believe that Senator Obama will be attcked on national security, if he is the democratic nominee. It seems to have gone unnoticed, but he tried his method of talking to adversaries in Kenya. It didn't do any good and the blood shed contiuned.

Senator Obama is a freshman senator. We cannot have another president that has to go through on the job training.

I am Afro-American female who believes that Sen. Clinton is the most qualified for the job - I have conributed to her campaign and will continue to do so - I feel that black people have been pimped by the media and other blacks who have been paid to support Obama- I think we should think about our country first - Obama would probably be worse than Bush - After all he has to pay back the people that paid the media to lie for him - I think it's disgusting - Go Hillary

I want to hear something about stay at home mothers. I am now a stay at home mother with a 14 year old, 9 year old, 2.6 year old and a 8 month old. I used to own two buisnessess. But now I take care of my babies. My husband sometimes works three jobs just to make ends meet. We don't qualify for public assistance. And that's okay we don't need it. When I tell strangers that I am a stay at home mom. They look at me like I am a welfare project. There should be a tax exemption or a special income adjustment for mothers like me. I don't work in the job market, yet I do the hardest job yet. And I don't get paid for it, and some times get shunned for the best job in the world. I should get creditted for it. And I know by reading some of the Child magazines that there are many other women out there that have quit there careers to be MOMMY! May be ther should be more organizations to give us the most uncredited people a real break. I'm worth more than what anyone can make. Plus on top of it I take care of my mother that has demensia and alsehiemers. These things can be great tasks and great stress. Yet I don't get Paid..............

If you can't come away from an event with something you can use, you haven't been educated, you've been entertained. Hillary gives us something we can use, Obama just entertains. And very badly at that, his message of hope and cheer is wearing thin. It's incredible that so many people haven't examined below the surface. Obama belongs to a church committed solely to African Americans, and a church that states a binding committment to the nation of Africa. In light of that, I find it hard to see him as a leader for all citizens of the United States. Obama's wife, Michelle, said today that for the first time in her adult life, she is "really proud of her country". I ask, do we as a nation deserve a first lady who has only become "really proud of her country" because her husband is running for the democratic nomination. We should have more information about who this man and his wife really are. At the very least, people must realize that both Obama and his wife are too naive to represent this nation and it's proud heritage. We must have a president who can lead us in peace and in times of war, who can interact with the leaders of other nations, and who we can look on with pride. We need Hillary.

Thank you for you post and links. I started out with an interest in Hillary and curiosity about Barack.

Now, I am deeply committed to Hillary. Looking into her past record it was easy to see her whole life whole has been one of social activim for everyone. I was astounded at her accomplishments big and small. I would love for people to get past the idea she is establishment or status quo. She's been a doer and progressive her whole career. I am looking forward to see her sworn into office.

Hillary all the way!!! She gave the most awesome speech in Madison, WI last night. And she did not steal anyone else's words!! The Obama people were so critical of her not spending time in WI---they have had to eat their words. She talked for 50 minutes, and gave many very specific details on all of the issues we Wisconsin people care about---no general slogans and RAH-Rah-Rah; she asked us to hold her accountable, and very warmly asked each of us for our vote if we felt she was the most qualified to lead. She brought the house down!!!! And then she stayed and stayed and stayed to talk and greet the people---very warm and sincere. Last week Obama talked 17 min, about that ever "elusive change" and no substance at all; this after starting 45 min late, and after people stood outside in freezing temps for 3 hours; then he was off the stage and "out of there"!!!! Warm? Sincere? In Touch?? I think not.

media distortion said:

Yet one more time I endured a total distortion of Hillary's words by MSNBC---In Madison last night Hillary was making the point that selecting a President is serious business; it is not a popularity contest, and we don't base it on whether it is someon we might like to have a beer with, although she herself does enjoy a beer. This was well received by the audience, and we enjoyed a good laugh with her;... we all know how the Bush people felt good old George would be so fun to drink with!!! And look what that got us. Now MSNBC says she insulted all of the Madison people because everyone knows we are nothing but a bunch of hearty drinkers!!! I was at the rally, and no one was insulted----we are smart up here in Wisconsin, and we will drink with our friends for sure---but our President does not HAVE TO BE OUR DRINKING BUDDY!! She has to be competent, reliable, intelligent, tried and tested---and above all experienced in how Washington really works!!!! The media makes me sick----it is sad how much they influence the voters!!

I am a big HIllary supporter. Please, all of you who have written such good comments about her, please pick up your phones and make calls to Texas, Ohio, Pa, etc. If you can, donate some money. This is the most important election in generations for our country. If we don't make super efforts for Hillary, we'll end up with Obama who to be kind, really doesn't have a clue; or with McCain. Good Grief! Let's get moving NOW for Hillary!!

Hooray for all You Hillary Supporters!!!!
You show that you are intelligent, read reliable reporting about all the candidates and are not afraid to state how the corporate owned media
(especially CNN and MSNBC) show their obvious contempt for Hillary and devote more of their
on-air time to praising their "Rock Star ~ Mr. O"
at every turn. Tonite, I turned on CNN (as I was
channel surfing ) and the headlines shown even before the pols in Wisconsin had closed, read across the t.v. screen "Desperation For a Win"....now I wonder who they were referring to????? Hillary is far from desperate, and I
will never lose faith in her determination and
inner strength she continues to show 24/7! Like
one of your commenters said " Obama merely Entertains...........HILLARY EDUCATES! "
TEXAS ~ OHIO ~ PA VOTERS.....WAKE UP AND READ THE FACTS, AND NOT BECOME A "BOOB-TUBE" BELIEVER!!!!!!

Stick a fork in her; Hillary Clinton is done! She should find a graceful way out and take it asap. At this rate Hillary will help the GOP snatch defeat from th jaws of victory and kill the Democratic majority. Hillary's done and that is reality!

Hillary's closing comments at the Democratic debate tonight showed true grace and a rare look into her often guarded feelings. The candor was amazing, and watching her, in that moment, I knew regardless of the outcome of the election, she would go on, and do what she has always done-- fight for the American people, in a country she loves.

You posted an article yesterday entitled "She Should Go Negative" or something to that effect. Whatever positive or negative strategy Hillary Clinton proceeds with, she has to continue to be tanacious and perseverant. She should not give up. I don't know if her steadfastness is from her faith or an innate instinct that won't go away. Either way, she should keep going! It isn't over yet. Keep fighting Hillary!

Further to my comment a few minutes ago, the Biblical foundation for Hillary Clinton's tenacity can be seen in Luke 18: 1-8. The subject in the story got justice because she held strong and was persistent.

Clinton is willing to work hard and will not take no for an answer. Enough said.
