A Little Intellectual Honesty on Immigration

Immigration is obviously a big hot-button for GOP types. And why not? It's a topic that even riles up a lot of those independent voters who have been abandoning the GOP as of late. Among the ranks, State Sen. Dan Patrick goes so far as to say that there are really only three core issues that underpin all others: taxes, spending, and illegal immigration. Everything else, the argument goes, is a subset of those three.

So why not propose a bit of intellectual honesty on the issue? Why not propose a Constitutional Amendment that removes the census requirement for every resident regardless of citizenship?

Is the principle so meaningful that it warrants the loss of electoral votes in some heretofore Republican states?
