Janek. Out.
Well, it's not a total shock since he's been living it up in Austin since this summer. But just in case anyone else missed it, a State Senate District is now coming open ... one where Bill Moody won 46.1% and someone who actually raises any serious amount of jack can probably move that needle over 50%.
Just sayin'.
The R-profs offer some potential names. Zerwas has long been considered Janek's favorite for succession. Not sure if that's a dead deal or if Zerwas will find some Christie-esque escape hatch to sneak in somehow.
For our own side, I'm curious how strongly any of the Galveston State Reps are interested in the seat. My sense is that they might be strongest in the first round of an open race. Otherwise, I can think of at least one more State Rep - far more proximate to me - with a free ride through November. Anyone else out there thinking about this one?
UPDATE: Burka offers up one hint of a replacement. It'd make the race interesting, to be sure. Would it work at splitting any votes in Galveston & Jefferson County? I'm less certain.
