Out of Town Tommy
I wonder if the folks at the Chron will cover where Tommy Thomas sleeps at night ... or if particular Republican bloggers will crack wise about law enforcement officials who travel out of town for the weekend. Certainly seems appropriate since it's actually true in this case:
Full disclosure: I'm for this guy.

Let me see if I understand your contention. Leaving THE STATE is the same as leaving the city limits?
I will never believe that the mayor is serious about crime in Houston, as he says, until he fires the current police chief and hires someone from inside the department who knows and CARES about this city.
Jim,
Maybe you missed that it's not just *city* limits he's skipping. But one of my contentions is that there aren't many folks who buy a million dollar mansion for just weekend purposes. Given that he's elected from within Harris County and serves Harris County, I figure ... ya know ... why not live where you work? It's a point that I think the voters should ask themselves.
As for Chief Hurtt, he doesn't commute to Phoenix and hasn't for far longer than the hateHouston crowd tried to tag him for it. But given the bias you're laying all to clearly here, I have good reason to suspect that you'd feel the same about the mayor or the chief regardless of who it was. You're entitled to that sentiment ... but at least be a bit more honest than trying to say it all hinges on Hurtt being police chief.
Now, that said ... do you feel that Sheriff Thomas CARES about this county (enough to warrant all caps, no less)? If so, what basis do you have for offering the opinion. Likewise, I'll even go so far as to entertain your contention about Chief Hurtt ... what is it that you feel indicates he doesn't CARE about the city? By all means, show some intellectual honesty and flesh out that thought.
