"This is a great University and a great city," said Sumlin. "This is a place that has won conference championship in recent years, and we want to continue down that path and play for a conference championship every season. This is Dave Maggard's vision, and I share the same vision. "I bring both energy and excitement to the program, as well as an aggressive style of offense and defense. It will be a style that the players will want to play and a style that our fans will like to watch.

"What excited me (about coming to Houston) was a chance to play for a championship every year."

Sure, there's some pleasant, happy-talk there. But the buzzwords seems to be "pass-happy" and "recruiter." That's enough to be optimistic about. On paper, it looks like a good mesh with the talent we've already got stocked. Hopefully, the "recruiter" tag will hold, too. There's a difference in recruiting for OU and A&M on the one hand ... and Houston on the other. It's hard to see Sumlin as a letdown from the Briles years, but then again, I remember being optimistic about the Dana Dimel era, too. Here's to hoping this is vastly different and that Coach Sumlin might possibly enjoy at least a couple of decades of success with the Coogs. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Oh, and the clock is now running for how long it takes UH to post something other than a pic of Sumlin in an OU shirt. The sooner that bastardized shade of red is done away with from our site, the better.
