Trinity Recap: Final Four!
» DMN: Trinity's defense rises up (Keith Whitmire)
Trinity saw its season end last year when it failed to execute a trick play, a fake punt, against Southlake Carroll. Ironically, breaking up a trick play helped extend Trinity's season this year.
Sounds like I missed an interesting game ... Bowie's QB threw 27-for-39 to get all of 153 yards. My mind boggles at how you accomplish 5.7 yards per completion on average. That the drives listed in the article consisted of 14 and 16 plays (plus Coach Lineweaver complaining about their time of possession), suggests that our defense met something close to it's match. Interesting comment here to suggest that the Bowie head coach is leaving to work with Briles at Baylor. Maybe I can catch a glimpse of some of that offense on the tube next season.
The games don't get any easier for Trinity. Plano's up next and that's a handful. From outward appearances, Bowie had a good offense and managed to dictate the pace of the game against the Trojans. Plano has what sounds like an even better offense and lit up a quality Skyline team with it. Welcome to the Final Four!
On the other side, North Shore is still chugging along as the only undefeated team in the division. I've felt all along that they'd be the ones to make it out of my current side of the state bracket. But for purely personal reasons, I'll be pulling for Converse Judson. It would mean that every season Trinity plays for the Championship, we meet Judson at the end.
That said, Plano's up first. I like how they put that one in prime-time on a Saturday night. No word yet on where Judson v North Shore will meet. Seems a shame that there's no playoff game set for the Houston area yet. In the other division, Katy's traveling to San Antonio to play Madison. Not sure how that got agreed to. Could San Antonio luck out and get Judson slated as a home game, also? Or will they try and book a double-header in Aggieland with a 4A Semifinal? For scouting purposes, I'm keeping hope alive that Rice Stadium is a possibility.
All in all, a pretty good Final Four for the 5A-1 class and Katy should give the hometown a bit of excitement when they end things.
ADD-ON: Also on a football note, the Statesman has a great catchup on Earl Campbell.
