Trinity Playoff Preview: Round Four
Another big game in the world of HS football. Trinity v Bowie @ Texas Stadium. I will, sadly, catch none of it. I'd record it, but when I get the scores emailed to me, I tend to putz out and not bother listening to a game when I know the outcome. I'm feeling a bit more secure about this game than last week's - though I have a hard time seeing the rout we put on Mojo being replicated. Bowie plays a different game and there's an increased chance of some weird mismatches that could make the game interesting (or, from my perspective, frustrating).
For what it matters, we get seven our of eight DMN picks. Add one more from DMN blogger Tim MacMahon, who predicts a close game.
The midweek sports page love comes in the form of a nice profile of junior QB, Denarius McGhee, with a nice statbox recap of his predecessors at Trinity. From the snippets I get online, McGhee strikes me as one of the best passing QBs we've had at Trinity that I can attest to. And maybe last season's hawg-powered offense is too prominent in my memory, but I'm a tad surprised to realize that, as a junior, Trevor Vittatoe actually chucked more than the usual number of passes you see out of a Trinity High offense. With a little luck, we'll see McGhee open things up a bit more next season. That ought to make it easier on him for some college recruiting attention, which I suspect he's already getting.
Oh, and it's interesting that Bowie doesn't get a midweek story in the DMN. I suspect that's due in part to Trinity's rise to the established top of the heap in local ball. A welcome change from my days as a student, when our success wasn't quite as much as it is now - plus we were a bit overshadowed by our arch-rivals at LD Bell at times. But still ... as few schools as the season is whittled down to, is it really asking too much for a profile of each school that's left?
