Campbell's (and Klingler's) Case for Pardee

» Klingler says Pardee hire a no-brainer (Steve Campbell)
» Jack Pardee/UH reunion: Brilliant, or a boondoggle? (Steve Campbell)

"Look at what coaching has become," Klingler said. "There's no loyalty out there. They've convinced themselves you have to have 20-hour days, and who cares about your marriage, and who cares about your family, and who cares about your kids? What's appealing about that to you? Would you ever put yourself in that type of situation by choice?"

I normally don't like it when reporters or columnists file one story and then blog about the same story ... but in this case, Campbell is consistent in the two. While the column isn't an apologetic by any stretch, it does make the case for Pardee. Not necessarily that he should be the choice - but that he'd be a capable choice.

Personally, aside from the Return of Klingler, I like what the hire might do to inspire a sense of tradition and loyalty to UH that's been in rather short supply. The current circling of the wagons as the Coogs gear up for the Texas Bowl is another impressive sign - and one that warrants a shoutout to CFL Champ, Vincent Marshall! That's a point that Klingler himself raises at the opening of Campbell's column. Given that the short list being considered is made up of on-the-rise OCs sure to bolt at the first good opportunity, the case for Pardee is actually bolstered somewhat.

And the day David Klingler is named Head Coach, I'm buying lifetime season tickets.

I don't know that there's a necessarily bad move Maggard can make in this situation - so long as nothing comes out of left field. But I've clearly got my preference for the optimal one. If the next head coach is named Haywood, Sumlin, Thurmond, or anyone else, I've got enough faith in the recruits we've got in uniform. That we didn't suffer much of a lull after the departures of Kevin Kolb and Vincent Marshall speaks volumes about what we're capable of in C-USA and might even bode well for moving up to the Big 12 or SEC someday.
