Another Fine BCS Mess? ... and other football thoughts.

Back from church and catching up on the football shockers from today.

Collegiately, this has certainly been an odd year. Today's results proved no different. Missouri (#1) and West Virginia (#2) lose in very different ways. Missouri's demonstrates that while they certainly are better than most, they're not quite prime time. Second loss to a Top-10 OU team that despite it's low-end ranking in that part of the spectrum, has as legit a claim to play the presumptive #1 team now: Ohio State. West Virginia simply failed to show up against the low-hanging fruit of Pittsburgh. I still maintain that LSU is up there with OSU, but there's now loads of teams capable of making a similar argument based on the wins and losses. The guy running the BCS contraption seems to be of the opinion that it could be LSU. Funny, I was just saying last week how those were the best two teams around.

On a sidenote for the UH coaching gig, radio reports are that Notre Dame OC, Michael Haywood, had an impressive interview. On paper, there's a lot to like about the guy as a potential recruiter and maybe a bit of know-how from some of the bigger programs (UT, LSU, ND among the stamps on his resume). Notes from the fan boards seem to indicate that the emphasis is on someone bringing in an innovative offense. Not sure what there is in Haywood's background to qualify that, but I'd definitely put this guy at or near the top of the early list. I'd still be interested to see if there's any merit to that Bowden kid coming here for a while, though.

High School: Trinity's score held from what I left it as. Naturally, the Dallas papers are busy levelling a forest full of paper over Southlake's crash & burn. Whatever. Those kids'll do alright when they matriculate to UNT and play for their previous coach. Trinity rolls on and the entire region is now seeng four 12-1 teams going at it next week. Professor Taylor will probably have words with me, but my earlier prediction of a Trinity-Plano matchup still looks most probable. Guess we'll see next week if my high school picks are as prophetic as my college picks.

NFL: Seahawks & Eagles on the early game on Fox. I'll be the one rooting for A.J. Feeley to get benched.
