Trinity v Permian: The LiveBlog (Second Half)
The only question now is how long I can manage to stick around the PC before heading out for the night. I cannot stress enough how much I'm hoping that Trinity just tacks on a few more TDs to make this a blowout. That's a bit of a request, though.
Listening to HEBISD's Athletic Director talk about how LD Bell "is getting better every year" with the sympathy of a parent describing an underachieving child really warms my heart. I know, I know. That makes me a bad person. Whatever. Haka power ... that is my answer.
UPDATE: Southlake Carroll ... DONE!!! Again, wow.
UPDATE 2.0: If Bowie & Trinity are the match in the next round, it's off to Texas Stadium we go for a 4pm game (note - even suckier for trying to get in a game before church). That matchup may not be quite what Southlake-Trinity was last year, but it's still a good matchup. It'd be a shame to see less than 20k fill the stands for that. If it happens, of course.
» Permian Drive #1: Permian receives, playing into the wind. A lateral call checks any Permian mojo. On the punt, Lineweaver doesn't even put in a return team due to the wind. Trinity fans go nuts when the Southlake score is announced.
» Trinity Drive #1: Quick points help. Scoring with the wind at our back is also nice. Nice pass from McGhee for a 12-yard TD. I'm feeling a lot more at-ease as I type this. Trojans going for two to lead by 21 ... Samir Baker succeeds. 28-7. Another seven points ... maybe even a 31-7 lead going into the fourth and I'll settle down.
Sidenote: Dallas Skyline's writeup is in. Granted, I'm no booster, but I can't help but think their next matchup against Plano isn't going to be any easier.
» Permian Drive #2: Punt!
» Trinity Drive #2: Sideline report has Trinity players saying it's "KO Time." Shortly thereafter, a long Samir Baker reception for a TD. 35-7 Trojans. Vengeance is now soon ours from that early season loss in Odessa.
» Permian Drive #3: 14-yard punt! Mowed-Jo ... LessJo ... pick your putdown!!! (Matt Wixon offers his based on the last Trinity TD: "Turn out the Friday Night Lights, this one's over.")
» Trinity Drive #3:Still in the third quarter with the wind at our back ... literally and figuratively. Another 7 should do the trick.
This one's just grinding along, which is good ... first down, first down, first down. It may not be a quick TD for one more nail in the coffin, but it's dominating. By all accounts, Wixon's timing is on ... there doesn't seem to be much life left for Permian. The quarter ends with Trinity still in control, but not having put another one in the endzone.
Fourth and short at the Permian twelve ... going for it. Illegal procedure on the good guys, more or less forcing a 34-yard FG try into the wind. Another flag is thrown ... "No Foul" called. Weird stretch of game. But the FG is good. 38-7. Time for me to start getting ready to head out.
» Permian Drive #4: 28-yrd TD pass after a long, grinding drive. No enthusiasm from their side of the stands. 38-14 with mere minutes in the 4th ... writing, meet wall.
On that note, I'm outta here.
