Monday Linkfest

» Trent Lott resigning? A bit of a holiday shocker there. Even if former AG Mike Moore gets into the race, it'll be uphill for Dems. Obviously, Moore makes it somewhat competitive and that's the office he's been itching for. But Gov. Barbour will get to name a GOP replacement who, if he runs in the election, will have an edge on that count. For southern Dems, though, a Moore candidacy is at least a ray of light.

» Trinity v Permian ... the rematch is on. Permian had a bit of a scare - about as much as the Patriots did in a Kolb-less contest. Here's hoping the game has an internet radio feed going this weekend.

» Back to the Eagles-Patriots. Yeah, so Feely played and Kolb sat. The Eagles looked good from start to finish, but so what. No disrespect to Feely, but I don't see that game as any harbinger of the future for Feely. As for the Eagles, the game may represent the fact that McNabb may be weighing the team down in some regards. Can't say that I watch enough of them with McNabb in the game to really take notice of how, though. For now, just a theory.

On a side note, I love this quote from Belichick:

Said Patriots Coach Bill Belichick: "We had some mistakes, and they forced us into mistakes."

There's a political note here as it pertains to the "Run Everywhere" concept. Often, you'll see candidates running in contests where the numbers just don't offer any hope of a win. But by competing and running in a way that draws the attention of either an incumbent or heavy favorite in an open seat, you can often force some of the mistakes that you need in order to catch a break. In that regard, hats off to the Eagles. It wasn't a miracle in Foxborough, but it was a good game.

» Coogs to the Texas Bowl! Heh ... it's something. Weird year for college football. Missouri & Kansas playing late for the #1 spot? There's nothing about that that impresses me. That Missouri's QB is a Southlake Carroll alum, however, only leads me to root for the other team. As it stands, it'll be Mizzou vs West Virginia for the title. Outside of the Oliver Luick household, I can only offer a "Big Whoop!" I haven't watched enough college ball this season to make a guess worth gambling on, but I'd hazard a guess that Ohio State & LSU are still the two best teams going this year. But what do I know? UConn is a ranked team this year. That really makes no sense to me at all.

» And since it's close to home, I'll note the Aggie situation thusly: Franchione out ... replaced by a guy who's calling card of success involves the wild success of the Houston Texans. Yet another thing that just makes little sense to me about professional football this season. No, that wasn't an error on my part ... very intentional. Deal with it.

» Back to politics ... finally. Mike Huckabee was on Kenneth Copeland's show all last week. The segments are onling here. Whatever your political preferences, whatever your comfort of squeamishness over candidates joining forces with televangelists, I recommend it. I'll have more to say on why next weekend. But Huckabee's appearances are well worth noting on their own merit.

» It's not often that I say things like this, but here goes: Karl Rove writes the most important thing you'll read today. You can read it solely on the level of his bloodlust for Hillary if you want. Lord knows his bias is clearly brimming to the top of this column. But the advice he offers to whoever the GOP nominee is is really far more universal and there's an easy parallel to draw for a Democratic candidate in this column, as well.
