Beat Bell ... Bad!
From the Mid-Cities:
Trinity Trojans - 44
L.D. Bell Raiders - 0
Bell, of course, being our intra-district rival. Correction: the much-loathed intra-district rival. From the looks of that score, there's a whole lotta hurtin' in Bedford.
I've been a bit too swamped to track the old school as close as I'd have liked this season. But the scoring seems to have ratcheted up week after week. No shot of a Trinity-Southlake rematch (which we all know Trinity would have won ;-). But there is the pesky matter of an earlier season loss to an older rival that needs to be avenged in the playoffs - Odessa Permian. That should come up in Round 3. I had my doubts this years team could have gone deep in the playoffs, but they're apparently good enough to rank 8th in the AP poll. Here's hoping for the best in the playoffs.

When did LD Bell get to sucking so bad? It seems odd to see any metroplex 4A or 5A school not score at all, since one would presume, with the large pools they have to draw on, they'd have at least enough talented players to at least score one TD.
I don't think they've had very many good years in the post-Tommy Maddox era. Adding to their problems was the loss of a pretty good QB from graduation last year. Adding still more is that I think the Odessa loss really sparked the Trinity team to prove a little something this time around. Oh, and we're really just THAT much better than them. Put it all together, and apparently 44-0 is what you get.
Prior to this game, Trinity beat Grand Prairie 31-0 and Irving 43-7. In fact, the loss to Odessa was a huge outlier.
It IS worth pointing out that this year's Bell team actually isn't so bad. And maybe it's a testament to my own bias in these fat years for Trinity High ... but I base my standard on the statewide Top 10 and the likelihood a team has for going deep into the playoffs. I think Trinity might be a good underdog for doing so - depending on that Odessa hurdle, of course. I don't see Bell as being a good team to go deep this year. Still, by most standard points of comparison, they really don't suck. But given my pro-Trinity bias, they always will.
