The Most Important Thing To Read This Week
... possibly longer.
David Kirkpatrick pens a rather impressive article in the NYT Sunday Mag. The topic, essentially, is on the conservative Christian "crack-up" over the political allegiances of said voters. I read just about everything I come across on this topic, and Kirkpatrick covers this topic far more brilliantly than most. I almost want to categorize this as a review of sorts for Greg Boyd's "Myth of a Christian Nation." So many of the issues that Boyd raises are put into stark relief in this article.
I've already deemed the coming week "Chaos Week" as a means to just note the lack of free time on my own part. But this article deserves a number of tangents be explored one blog post at a time. I could spend a week on this, easily. A month if I could focus that well. I don't know what I can guarantee of myself for time to blog on this topic, but don't be surprised if I try to focus as much as possible on this article. Kirkpatrick also makes reference to Bill Hybels' 2003 sermon on "Why War." I know I've got another blog for positing on sermons and matters of faith, but words fail me for the time being on how strongly I recommend that sermon for just about anyone (whether the topic of war interests you or not).
If you were hoping for something a bit more light-hearted, the Rick Richards clip and the video of Slate's "Mac and Me" review are well recommended.
