Strange Bedfellows of the Day [UPDATED]
Worth a laugh over a late lunch (for which I'm still grumbling at the responsible parties for), the Spring, TX contingent of the hateHouston crowd offers up an interesting post today aiming their usual ounce of invective at Mayor Bill White - not that they're partisan or anything! The focus of the daily potshot, however, comes as a critique of the red-light cameras here in town. Apparently, folks in Spring are all up in arms over the right of people to go club-hopping with minimal track record of said hopping. The claim made by the (Republican) hateHouston blogger is that a certain London study refutes the Mayor's claim that such cameras offer a public safety benefit.
One huge problem.
The study was a partisan, limited study ... done by the British Liberal Democratic Party. That's the far-left major party for those who follow such things. Here's a few clips from Wikipedia's description of the party's views:
The party is traditionally supportive of a multilateral foreign policy, and opposed British participation in the War in Iraq and now support a swift withdrawal of troops in Iraq by October 2007. They are considered the most pro-European party in British politics. In the past decade the party has adopted a strong sense of environmentalist values - favouring taxing high polluters more so than at the moment. Since the 2006 Liberal Democrat Party Conference, in Brighton, the party has switched to favour cutting the basic rate of income tax by 'two pence in the pound' while proposing raising tax rates on annual earnings above £100,000, a significant alteration of their policy towards fiscal neutrality and away from increasing tax revenue for purposes of redistribution that had previously been considered an "Old Labour" position.
I really can't wait to see what the next study done by the Liberal Democratic Party is agreed to by the hateHouston crowd ... or the next ridiculous talking point they launch.
UPDATE: FLIP-FLOP EDITION: Just in case there was any doubt the hateHouston duo could top this hilarity ... a mere two posts later, we get the following from the Kevster's hate-on for the Houston police chief:
... the smart/technological approach is of even more potential benefit in Houston, since it allows existing resources to be used more effectively.
Yeah, unless it's cameras downtown or at red lights. It's a good thing we've got a know-it-all like Kevin who can lecture a police chief on fighting crime, yet can't even strike a pose of intellectual consistency with his blogmate. I swear, it's the blog equivalent of watching Lucy & Ethel in the chocolate factory, sometimes.
Damn liberals.
Fight on!
