Case v. Blake

» Chron: 'A game-time decision' (Michael Murphy)

Over at the University of Houston, they have what would normally be called a "quarterback controversy." With the departure of four-year starter Kevin Kolb, who now is in the NFL after leading Houston to the 2006 Conference USA championship, the Cougars are still trying to figure out who their starting quarterback will be when they take the field for Saturday's season opener at Oregon.

Will it be sophomore Blake Joseph?

Or will it be redshirt freshman Case Keenum?

Two guys. One job.

I'm not sure the decision is as tough as the post-David Klingler decision of Donald Douglas v. Jimmy Klingler, but thankfully, C-USA ain't the old SWC (even the lame SWC era that petered out in the 90s). Case looks strongest coming out of scrimmages, so it'll be a shock if he's not the first QB to take a snap this season. Whatever, just kill the Ducks is all I ask.

Meanwhile, over in El Paso, Trevor Vittatoe looks settled in.

SIDENOTE: And regarding Kevin Kolb, his status in Philly is looking pretty bright right about now, with last year's backup, Kelly Holcomb, traded on the eve of a great showing by Kolb in preseason. The countdown is on to see how long before replica #4 Eagles jerseys hit eBay.
