Not To Overlook THIS Serious Challenge, But ...
It's somewhat heartening to see at least one Republican come around to the Run Everywhere concept. T.J. Baker-Holm is in it to ... um ... well, we're not sure what the plan is. Here's what Queen Sheila's up against (emphasis mine, grammar TJ's):
Yes, I am a Black/African American Proud Republican Female! I am more of a starch Republican than I am a conservative Republican. I may every blue moon - not agree with the Republican Party and when folks hear that from me. They say, "Oh well you couldn't be a starch Republican - if you don't agree on everything the Republican views."
I'm not saying she can't be a starch Republican ... I'm just asking what the heck a starch Republican IS!
There's a little bit more of this dazzling intellect on display in this interview:
Bennett: If you are a Republican with a Democratic heart, why should Democrats in the 18th vote for you? They already have a Democrat and one would assume Jackson-Lee's heart is also Democratic.Baker Holm: District 18 has been rezoned since last year. It's no longer that stereotypical poor, Black Democratic area. District 18 is now a conservative Democrat area/Republican. Because of being re-zoned we need a new leader because Sheila is more or less a straight Democrat.
I wasn't aware of any Texas Congressional District being "re-zoned" ... let alone being rezoned as "conservative Democrat area/Republican."
One more ...
Bennett: But why are you that leader? Why are you qualified to be a U.S. Congresswoman?Baker Holm: The main requirement of a congressperson is to be 25 years of age. I'll be 40 later on this year. And to also be a U.S. citizen. It's not even required that you have a high school diploma. I will be a leader like Martin Luther King or Farrakhan. That's what we need.
One other thing I wasn't aware of ... that being 40 is some sorta super skill that designates one for political leadership. Heck, I'll be 40 later this year. Is it too late to run for President?
As for the mind-melting spectacle of Republicans in the district being able to vote for a starch Republican who wants to be like Louis Farrakhan, what really needs to be said? Let the good times roll.
That last quote really cracked me up - I'm 40! I'm a citizen! Vote for me!
1) Is that heavy, medium, or light starch?
2) Perhaps her point is that there are no specific qualifications for Congress. Ideally, all members are citizen legislators. Since practically the entire Congress is doing a terrible job (I am working hard to think of a single exception), any citizen could do as well. If she had enough starch to actually say that, I could give her consideration - my inclination in 2008 is to vote against every single incumbent on the ballot, regardless of party affiliation. We need change, complete, total change.
3) Am I the only one who wonders what it means to be like both King AND Farrakhan?
I think I know what a starch Republican is and I think I saw one on Monday. I got behind a car with a W04 sticker on it, and when I pulled up beside it, the driver was a young, white guy in a starched business shirt.
HE was a Starch Republican.
Hi my name is Kirk Spano. I am a White Male, happily married with 2 wonderful sons. And my family lives in Kirkwood.
I think what Lady Tj probably meant to say in that interview, is that Kingwood (surprisingly) since last year has been ADDED to District 18 and if I am not mistakenly, so has Clearlake.
That means Jackson-Lee is my Congressperson. WELL I'LL BE DAMN IF SHE STAYS IN THAT SEAT! If I can help it.
I will be very vocal in this upcoming 2008 election. I met Lady Tj once at Boy Scout annual Scout fair, held at the Dome two years back. Because her son and my sons, belong to the Sam Houston Chapter.
No doubt Lady Tj is genuine and professional. She's a real Mom! And didn't have any makeup on that day and still look cute. She was cooking, lugging and packing things around at the Scout fair. She's not scared of hard labor. She left a good impression on me and the others.
So now Lady Tj is running for Congress. I’ve read somewhere that Congress is made up with all kinds of people and it didn’t say that every last one of them had to have great political expericance.
Well Congress needs allot of help! It’s all screwed up. Lady Tj will fit right in, because there will be new faces with fresh ideas. And remember the Republicans need as many seat as possible.
Jackson-Lee needs to go! She got her 10+ years she has a hefty retirement coming to her. That's good for someone who has never passed a bill.
Question for any Web Logger out there: Congressman AL Green has passed 3 bills since he's been in office. And he just got voted in back in 2006. How come he gets bills passed, but Jackson-Lee can't?
Kirk
Kirk,
I look forward to the spectacle of seeing her campaign in Kingwood, Kirkwood or Clear Lake for votes. By all means, please send an invitation my way to any campaign activities that will be going on in ANY of these areas for the campaign. I would love to blog about them.
You got it Greg. Will keep you inform when Lady Tj Baker Holm, campaign visit my zip code. But I'm getting an autograph first and hopefully a photo with her. You have to wait your turn like everyone else.
Over and out.
