Fox on Borris & Copper Thieves
UPDATE: Conservative idio(t)logue, Rorschach (a "regular" from the hateHouston crew) has this to say about Borris:
"... this idiot has it coming."
Real sharp logic there. Guy's home is broken into. Guy happens to be a Dem with an A-rating by the NRA. So he "has it coming." The sharp contrast between normal citizens and the ideologues of the far right couldn't be any clearer. Kristen Mack's co-written article (I'd say it's biased, but that's a clear redundancy with K-Mack) is that Borris was one of 13 State Reps to vote against SB378, explained as follows:
The freshman lawmaker was one of a handful of representatives who voted against a bill designed to strengthen the state's self-defense statute during the legislative session earlier this year. In a 133-13 vote, the House approved Senate Bill 378, which clarifies whether Texans must try to retreat from an attacker in their own homes. It permits use of deadly force in self-defense against attacks that occur at a person's home, work or vehicle. The law goes into effect Sept. 1.
Note, there's no way to argue that Borris was or is against the concealed carry law or against the basic rights of self-defense. Why? Because he's always been believers in those things. For that illuminating K-Mack editorialized fact, certain breeds of far right morons now deduce that a victim of a home invasion "had it coming." No wonder Republicans are suffering so much these days ... they have to defend people like Rorschach as one of their own.
UPDATE 2.0: Wow, you'd think people would stop digging once they find themselves in a hole. But leave it to Rorschach (the new voice of the modern Republican Party). Now, he's arguing that Borris ought to be indicted and confesses to his sense of shadenfreude. He also declares the now-punctured burglar to have been unarmed despite every report under the sun declaring that he had thrown a knife at Borris. So much for our GOP friends being a concerned voice for victim's rights.
All told, though Rorschach might be seen as only a singular commenter going deep into a blind partisan frenzy, his comments bely a larger problem with today's conservative movement. Namely, that the biggest sin one can commit is to not be an unquestioningly supportive Republican Party loyalist. Anything less, and you probably deserve to get killed in your home, sued by a criminal trespasser, or indicted by big government for the basic premise of defending yourself. To date, there haven't been any Republican bloggers disavowing themselves from Rorschach's premise.
Not. One.
UPDATE 3.0: Rorschach in his own words (and spelling): "It is my sincere hope that he is indited for this." Seriously, I cannot make up that much irony.
The good news, Greg, is that these sorts of zealots do more harm than good for their "cause".
