A Non-Metal Music Moment

The Fixx (as well as The Alarm and the Psychedelic Furs) hit Houston on July 22. The question is whether it's worth $25 out of my pocket to enjoy one band on that bill. Selling points are as follows:

Don't underestimate The Alarm!

OK, it's not really the Alarm. It's lead singer Mike Peters and some hired help, but Peters has always been one of the best live performers in rock and roll. I saw the Alarm open for Pat Benatar (of all people) in 1986, and it was amazing. Usually at that sort of a show, the opener gets booed. That night, my boys from Wales drew the crowd in, and by the end of the eight song set, about 18,000 people were into the performance.

I saw the same Pat Benatar tour, but with Joe Lynn Turner (solo) opening. The Alarm are clearly a secondary interest for me on that bill ... but I at least identify and enjoy a few songs of theirs and have a skosh of respect for them for much the same reason I can get into U2.

If you haven't seen The Fixx play live before...you gotta go. If you have seen them before, you know it's worth the $25 bucks, even for the reduced set. They've got some new material that might sneak in -- excellent stuff!
