This Just In ...

According to local "liberal media" mythologist, G-man ... Richard Justice is the latest bit of evidence that the Chronicle is stacked with liberal writers.

In a word: wow!

For those of you located out of the Houston media market, Richard Justice is a sports columnist. You're on your own figuring out how the liberal establishment has gotten their tentacles into the sports pages.

Seriously, for all the tens of millions of dollars spent on trying to prove a liberal media somewhere out there beyond the offices of The Nation and Mother Jones Magazine, there's much better material out there for the cutting and pasting.

Speaking of which, I'll engage in a bit of that with this example that Froomkin highlited a few days ago:

More Than You Want to Know

Available on the White House Web site's royal visit page, the guest list for the dinner, the menu, and much more.

As for the guests, it's no wonder ABC's Robin Roberts was so excited interviewing Laura Bush yesterday. (Here's the video and the transcript.)

"The excitement continues to build . . . And I'm telling you, what a delight. . . . I mean, truly, everyone is buzzing around here," Roberts told Bush.

Roberts was one of four journalists invited to the dinner, the others being David Gregory of NBC; Steve Holland of Reuters, and Richard Wolffe of Newsweek.

Will Bunch blogs for the Philadelphia Daily News: "The kind of people you won't find on a list like this are everyday Americans, plumbers and accountants and bus drivers and secretaries, the folks who pay the taxes and raise the young men and women who are fighting and dying to support the U.S. (and British) gambit in Iraq. Those who do attend these affairs, on the other hand, are the closest that America comes to producing its own royalty.

"That said, why in the name of God are four working journalists among those attending this state dinner -- not as reporters with a notebook or a camera but as guests munching on Dover sole and dancing into the night with America's own brand of dukes and earls? . . .

"Reporters -- whether they work in Washington, D.C. or a small mountain town in Washington State -- ought to be the voice of the kind of people who don't get invited to white-tie affairs, the handymen and school teachers, not the politicians and billionaires."

Emphasis mine.

Of course, we can check the archives of Julie Mason's blog for a more local example of White House beat reporters more enamored with the trappings of a sweet gig than in digging up anything timely, newsworthy, and useful out of the White House.

So, who are the Chronicle's on staff conservatives?

I'm still waiting to discover who the liberal ones are ... save for those who cover the infield fly rule in a manner not fitting with conservative judicial philosophy.

Perhaps if you show a little evidence instead of relying on "because I say so," you might get somewhere with your argument.

Uh, let's see. Lisa Falkenberg, Clay Robinson, Kyrie O'Connor, Rick Casey, and Cragg Hines are all big liberals. Now, I'm waiting on those list of conservative Chronsters.

By the way, here's Justice from his blog:

"The problem with this comment is that it exposes you as a complete idiot. Kyrie O'Connor is brilliant. You mean it as an insult, but it's really a terrific compliment. I'd recommend you listen to Kyrie sometimes on NPR, but I'm guessing you couldn't spell NPR. One of the problems with this country is that nitwits like you are allowed to vote. That's one of the reasons we're in the mess we're in. Let me guess: gun rack, snuff dipper, country-music listener. I'm right, aren't I? I can spot a moron from 10 miles away.--Richard"

Be sure to check the front page of yesterday's paper, Gary. It sorta blows your whole "Mrs. White" theory out of the water. Not just the reporter (with verifiable Republican voting history, btw) that had a story above the fold, but the editors who ran it.

Now, with the only evidence you offer, I'm curious ... how is it that listening to NPR, reading MeMo, and having an aversion to snuff-dipping country music listeners qualifies as a proxy for one's views on abortion. By this definition, Rod Dreher and David Brooks might very well be flaming liberals (perhaps dependent upon their readership of MeMo, naturally).

And I'm not sure what to make of the fact that the current poll-leader among Republicans (formerly known as the conservative party) is an avowed pro-choice former mayor of New York City. Does this mean there simply are no more "conservatives" - save for the Sam Brownback cult?

This is where the wheels of your argument come off, Gary ... you don't have a good definition of what it means to be conservative. For that matter, you really don't even HAVE a definition. Of course, I'd also point out that you may not have a particularly insightful view of what it means to be pro-life, but I'm merely going by the lack of thought you put into the previous matter to assume that.

I await your listing of each Chronicle writer's views on abortion though ... perhaps starting with the all-important roster of writers from the Star section. Because we all know that liberalism is being foisted on us in the midst of all those reviews of CW Network television shows.

And are you familiar with the Chron Eye for Death Row Killer Guy series?

For someone who simply refuses to make a coherent argument, I'm not sure I really owe you anything Gary. You don't have an argument ... you just have talking points. Amateur talking points at that. Best of luck adjusting to reality when it hits you more squarely on the head.

Meanwhile, do you remember when Darrel Azor (sp?) worked at KTRH. That guy had a great job. He lived in Austin and all he had to do was wait around the fax machine for a liberal public policy group to fax him their rant about how the state of Texas hated the poor, the minorities, the elderly, the environment, etc. Guess it was fun for him while it lasted.

Greg Wythe said:

I just love how your entire vision of a liberal media exists only in your own imagination - complete with fax machine, no less.

Seriously, though ... you should have noted some time ago that it's not I who pretends to know the views on each reporter's position on abortion. Until you show the ability to follow through on that, I can only take you as seriously as the rest of the rightwing nuts who think the Chronicle is a liberal bastion and that Richard Justice wants to perform partial-birth abortions on Republican women.

Let me know when you have a real argument.
