TBD Derangement Syndrome

As Greg Sargent notes, the quick slide of conservative thought into childish insult-based namecalling sure is hard to explain.

Related, Josh Marshall links to this Australian report on the current state of conservatism. It's a dim view, to be sure. And while I'm sure most of our Republican friends would quickly trot out the meme of "Bush Derangement Syndrome" and quickly pull up some old links of Cindy Sheehan or the like ... the hatred of all things Clinton pales in comparison to that of Bush. If you don't believe me, just let me know how much dough the Democratic Congress is looking to spend in order to impeach the sitting president.

Democrats on the far left may not be any better than Republicans on the far right (which is to say: a greater percentage of them than us), but considering that the GOP has the advantage of the singular, uniting voice of the Presidency right now, it makes the current reality all the more remarkable. Comparing Democrats in the late 90s to Republicans now, it's no contest where the highest bout of derangement really exists.

SIDENOTE: Oh, and Max Blumenthal gets a good look at the state of modern "conservatism" at the CPAC convention.
