Friday Mimiced Ten
Why mimiced? Because I'm at rather steep odds over Kuff's taste in music. Furthermore, it's my contention that non-iPod types have better taste than iPod users. With that ...
1. "Take" by Will Stern
An indie artist here, and one I'm turned onto by Lakewood's guitarist, Michael Hodge. Good stuff with some nice guitar work in the mix.
2. "I Only Want to Be With You" by The Tourists
Dusty Springfield/Bay City Rollers tune as reworked by Stewart/Lennox, pre-Eurythmics. What's to not love about this?
3. "The Vow" by Geoff Moore
This is one of those songs I never discovered until over a decade after I had the CD. I've just now sorta rediscovered it after a long lost absence from my playlist. Just a nice acoustic/soft-electric vibe from a great songwriter.
4. "Every Single One" by Geoff Moore
The latest from Geoff Moore. You can download this for free as long as it's Friday. The new album comes out next month and Geoff Moore once more tours with ...
5. "Love Irresistible" by Jamie Jamgochian
A relatively new find among the female Christian artist genre.
6. "I Love How You Love Me" by Erin O'Donnell
Another recent discovery in the female Christian artist section. More my taste, as well. The tunes are more piano driven and the vocals stand out a bit more. From all appearances, O'Donnell's recording career has wound down since this 2003 release. Not sure why ... this is solid stuff.
7. "Everlasting God" by Chris Tomlin
It may be a long while before there's no Chris Tomlin coarsing through my MP3 player. Great songwriting and a good instrumental touch for the songs go a long way. There's loads more songs on his latest release that I could listen to forever, but at some point, I've got to make some room on the player for a bit of diversity.
8. "Real Wild Child" by Everlife
New album out by this 3-sister combo. The band has actually been bouncing around a bit on some Disney soundtracks for a year or so prior. I wish the rest of the band's material was along the lines of this song's heavy pace. It'd make them something akin to a Christian version of The Donnas, if so. But there's a wide array of styles on display, so there's bound to be something that appeals to many different people on it. I dig some of the slower songs as well, but this one kinda fills my need to rock out at times. They also cover The Romantics and Phil Collins here. Not my cup of tea, but in case it floats your boat ...
9. "Got to Get Out" by Nick Gilder
Not quite an 80s fix, but if you consider that the 80s started in 1977, it works. After seeing a recent concert performance of the song on YouTube, I like the heavier treatment the song gets from former Kick Axe guitarist Joey Wowk.
10. "My Love Remains" by Jonny Lang
I've been something of an on-again/off-again fan of Lang's since his big-label debut. Generally, I find 16-yr old blues players oxymoronic, but Lang's material makes up for it with some stellar vocals that belie his age. His latest Grammy-winning album is a must-own. What strikes me about this album, though, is that the guitar work is rather subdued. I'm fine with that.
