Wrong "Cram," Right "Throat"

Re: A February 5th Primary date for Texas:

Oops ...

Chris Elam:

This is a BAD IDEA, and I'm counting on the GOP-led Legislature to shoot it down.

The Donks are “taking the lead”, because this is a non-starter issue with all Texans. Here are their five reasons for trying to cram it down our throats.

Something closer to reality:

Grass-roots Republicans are "largely supportive" of moving party primaries from the second Tuesday in March to the first Tuesday in February, the Republican of Party of Texas says.

Party spokesman Hans Klingler said Wednesday that a recently completed survey of party leaders around the state shows they do not want the state to continue to be ignored by presidential candidates who stump a little in the state while heavily fundraising here — treating Texas "as a giant ATM," he said in reference to automated teller machines.

The Texas Democratic Party has already endorsed a February primary.

Political activists generally tend to prefer earlier rather than later primaries. Chris goes on to point out his disapproval of the idea, however, and I don't necessarily disagree with his point. Personally, I'm indifferent to when we vote. Just tell me when the date is and I'm there to vote. Still, it's sometimes funny to see how profusely wrong someone can be on the facts regarding who's cramming what down who's throat.

As it pertains to the heat of what really should be an exciting Presidential season, I think there's one aspect that Chris misses ... this is a wide-open contest with no incumbent and no clear front-runner in the race on either side. That naturally gins up the level of excitement for having a say on the race. However, it's pretty silly for any one state to think they swing the balance of the decision by manipulating the calendar, though. Circumstances and situations drive the race more than that. Last I checked, we can't legislate either.
