Quickie Movie Reviews ...

A few short movie takes as I once more discover the joys of paying too much for a ticket to enjoy the big screen ...

» "Facing the Giants" ... I missed this when it was in initial release, but caught it at the dollar cinema. Probably for the best. It's worth seeing if only as a curiosity - the film was made on a volunteer basis by a Georgia church. The quality of the acting shows. The story itself is pretty hokey, even if you're down with a nice, uplifting Christian theme to a movie. There's a few scenes that are particularly well done, I'd argue. But it's not enough to really suggest the movie warrants much more attention than it's gotten already (which is pretty sizable as it stands).

» "Black Christmas" ... a nice throwback to the late-70s/early-80s style of horror movies. Which is great if you like that sorta thing. Otherwise, this might be worth skipping. As a fan of the original movie, this struck me as a nice homage to it. Something you don't see with many remakes.

I still haven't taken in "Nativity Story", but I'm off to see "The Bridge" tonight. A rather curious decision, I'm sure. It's more about needing a movie to catch tonight and tonight alone and preferring to stick close to downtown for the pleasure. With a little luck, I'll have some sense of being caught up with movie entertainment in a short while

UPDATE: "The Bridge" ... spooky. It's definitely as notch or two above "snuff film" classification, but it suffers from some limitations that keep it from being decidedly better. Still, if you like weird movies, this may be the one for you.
