Dodgeball Moves North
Holy cow ... Southlake Carroll head coach Todd Dodge has just signed on (*) to coach North Texas. Dodge is clearly one of the best in the state, having gone 77-1 since Southlake has been in class 5A. It's surprising in that Dodge's son is only a junior at Southlake. But it could lead to an interesting situation when the kid is recruited - would he be wiser for going to UNT and getting dad's program running relatively quickly, or should he head for greener pastures, knowing his dad will likely take the first big college gig available after he turns around things in Denton?
Matters precious little to me ... I'm just looking forward to Southlake Carroll turning it down a notch in the DFW area. I'll be shocked if my own school's coach, Steve Lineweaver, is a candidate to replace Dodge (Lineweaver used to coach there as an Asst. and has a son on the coaching staff). Trinity's one of those schools that's shown an insane willingness to pay successful head coaches something like three times what a teacher would make. It's as good a gig as there is in north Texas high school football. Carroll has more money to throw around, though ... so who knows. I'm sure they'll get some quality to replace Dodge. Now if they can only manage to schedule Trinity once a year ... or the UIL can lump us into the same division, all will be wonderful.
(*) ... no, I'm not being obsessive about DFW-area high school football. The story truly warrants major sporting interest. Hey, when was the last time the AP ran a story on your coach moving up the food chain?
