For Friday ...
Yes, another "Game of the Century" update.
Apparently, there will be two radio/internet options for the game. CArroll's feed starts the pregame at noon, the other one kicks in at 12:30. This is going to be tough to juggle two feeds, but there's no going back on this one. I'm likely to try and record what I can, but no guarantees.
And if you think I've oversold the game, be sure to check USA Today on Friday. Apparently, we're slated for the front page. Not bad for a little bitty high school game, huh?
Much like the Chicago Bears, the Trinity Trojans have also come up with a song. I'm really not sure what to think of that.
And unbeknownst to me, Coach Lineweaver's son is an assistant coach with Southlake Carroll. It could be worse, I suppose. He could have a gig over at LD Bell.
In the "straight news" department, the DMN reports that Southlake Carroll's offensive line is really tight-knit. Seriously, I think it would only be a story worth reporting if there was some dissension there.
Meanwhile,. the FWST reports on previous "Instant Classics" of area high school football games. Predictably, Trinity & Carroll have their mark on the list from prior years. While I do think the Bell showdown was among the best, I think they skipped out a bit too easily from including our win over Odessa Permian back in the day. And what of the Odessa-Carter game? Look, I realize Odessa isn't exactly in the DFW market, but they play in the same bracket and have at least as much relevance as the inclusion of Stephenville & Waxahachie.
Speaking of Stephenville ... I notice that one of the entries was a certain 1998 showdown between them and Carroll. A game in which Stephenville won. Why do I care? The head coach of Stephenville that season was Art Briles - current head coach at the University of Houston. I'm going to take this as an omen ... a good omen.
Oh ... and Trojans Rule!
