Endorsement Season: Chron for Strayhorn
Nevermind the inconsistencies in her multiple expressed worldviews ... here come the Gubernatorial endorsments:
The Chronicle believes only Carole Keeton Strayhorn has the experience and savvy to win election to the governorship and then use the office to improve public education and change the course of Texas for the better.
This part also caught my attention:
Texas badly needs to change its philosophy of governing. In hopes of fostering this change, the Houston Chronicle endorses Carole Keeton Strayhorn for governor. Of the four candidates, she is best equipped to shake up the status quo in a way that balances the needs of both business and residents.
I guess if your criteria for making an endorsement is to "change a state's governing philosophy", maybe it does make sense to pick someone who will gladly, willfully, and frequently change her's to suit whoever it is that's writing out checks to her campaign from year to year. It certainly strikes me as worthwhile for a major state newspaper to actually do a little digging in the Guv's race and start to look at how Carole has changed her own worldview more often than she has last names. Joking aside, isn't there at least something of a story in that? ... for at least one major Texas newspaper?
Meanwhile, the collective wisdom at the Chron Ed Board pen an anti-Kinky editorial, enumerating reasons why anyone still thinking of supporting him should cease doing so. Here's the reasons:
1. He's unqualified
2. He has poor judgement
3. He can't win
Maybe Texans should change their philosophy to one of "winnerism" ... is that the message here?

Huh. You're just annoyed because they didn't endorse Bell.
Maybe if Bell didn't yell at the voters every time he opened his mouth....
It probably would have been more accurate to assert that I'd find fault with any endorsement other than Bell, but not that I'm annoyed. What annoys me is the utter lack of logic (not to mention transparency) that seems to come out of the Ed Board at 801 Texas regarding endorsements. That applies to far more than just race or even some of the big ticket races.
I'm sorry - my comment yesterday was wrong and added nothing to the debate.
Like you, I've found the last six years tiresome.
I think I need to take a blogbreak soon.
Don't sweat it, Jon. Besides, blogbreaks are sooo 2003 ;-)
