Meet Sheldon Whitehouse, the future Senator from Rhode Island! A Democratic Senate is looking more and more like a certainty. But alas, the first inning of the ballgame begins Monday.

Ack!
It looks like Kean has pulled ahead of Menendez in my own state of New Jersey.
I can't believe Political Wire even tries to compare Chafee to Lieberman. Chafee isn't even in a Republican except on medical liability reform and a very, very small number of decretionary spending issues. He is one of, if not the most, liberal Senate Republicans in the last 25 years. He is definitely not the opposite of Lieberman.
Re: Menendez ... New Jersey has always been a perplexing state for my own taste. Not sure I really want to root for too many Dems up there. But of course, this time it's for who gets to vote for Majority Leader. I think it'll be a close one no matter what, but if it's still close by the end (in any race), I'd have to say 'Advantage Democrat.'
Re: Chafee ... agreed. There's a similarity in the way Club for Growth is trying to purge members the way MoveOn.org is. But in terms of the individuals they're trying to purge, huge diff.
I can't say I have any strong feelings about Bob Mendendez, other than we need all the Democratic seats we can get this time around. The GOP in NJ has continued to use corruption as an issue against the Dems, not without some historical justification.
In fairness to Political Wire, they're not explicitly comparing Chafee to Lieberman, they're quoting somebody -- Victor Profughi -- who is doing that, and even there it's not clear he's doing anything but pointing to the same similarity in the politics.
