ADD-ON:
Just to complete the irony-thon of Democrats demanding fealty to the voice of the people, I present this month-old bit of news ...
Independent Rep. Bernie Sanders will be on the ballot in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate. But he won't accept the party's nomination if he wins it. Sanders intends to continue running as independent, as he's done for more than two decades.
Sanders is seeking the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. James Jeffords.
Leaders of the Vermont Democratic Party filed a petition to put Sanders' name on the primary ballot, which they said they did to show their support.
The petition required Sanders' signature to be valid.
He now faces Larry Drown, Craig Hill, Peter Moss and Louis Thabault in the September primary.
I guess it's ok (for some, at least) to support an independent who's literally a socialist because he's more tolerable for some on the left compared to someone with a solid progressive record who believes in free markets. Nevermind that this is Howard Dean's own backyard. Nevermind that the Vermont Democratic Party tried desparately to clear the field of any candidates and lacking that, try the too-coy ruse of placing Bernie Sander's name on the primary ballot in order for him to ultimately disassociate himself from the party once he (presumably) wins it.
This newfound desireputsch for party loyaltyfealty is far more confusingidiotic than it ought to be (reminds me, didn't Markos have an anti-Hillary op-ed in the papers some time ago?). I'll stick with supporting the incumbent Democratic Senator from Connecticut and leave it to far more creative minds to tell me yet again what a bad Democrat that makes me. Last I checked, those folks would better spend their time trying to find a way to drum up more "base" voters for Ned now that they've got a November election to deal with.
reminds me, didn't Markos have an anti-Hillary op-ed in the papers some time ago?
Markos' anti-Hillary op-ed in The Washington Post. Few people (other than Republicans) spend more time blasting other Democrats than he does.
What, exactly, does Vermont have to do with Connecticut again? You see an independent in each campaign so they're analogous? Are you saying you are pulling for the GOP candidate in Vermont because Sanders is so unacceptable? Sanders is a former socialist and Joe is a current neo-con. Which is worse? It's not former socialists who are ruining this country right now. And, of course, there is no Democrat on the ballot in Vermont. Now, I don't know exactly why that is - maybe the state party there is as hapless and impotent as you and your buddies have let the Texas state Dem party become.
As for YouTube, you're right - since Team Lieberman's Web crew is so incompetent, perhaps the necessity of the current arrangement outweighs the embarrassment.
Finally, I think you've stumbled across the perfect campaign slogan for Joe: To Hell With This 'Fealty to the Voice of the People' Crap!
Hmmm, when did Bernie become a "former" Socialist??? The linkage is rather clear on the "why" in Vermont. They didn't want anyone to run on the Democratic ticket because they figure those votes come out of Sanders' total. So why is it ok for them to pull for an independent when it seem to make anyone else who does so a bad democrat in your eyes, Bob?
Likewise, your attempt at dismissal - by suggesting that the Vermont Democratic Party that Howard Dean left behind is dysfunctional - is clearly wrong. They know what they're doing and they're supporting the socialist. I just happen to support an independent candidate who happens to be the incumbent Democratic Senator and who also believes in the viability of free markets.
You're right ... there's a difference. But there's also a certain amount of hypocrisy that suggests its ok to pull for an independent in one state, but not the other. In the meantime, I'll echo the charge that it just might take something more than bitterness or a single issue to get a victory for Ned in Connecticut. I look forward to you representing one or two of those ideas at some point in the (hopefully) near future.
Oh, and by all means save the talk about paying attention to the voice of the people until after they've had a chance to actually talk ... on November 7. Anything else is just whining.
