Revenge of the 10-percenters
Chron.com | 'Sanctuary' foes face Houston ballot deadline
I missed blogging on this story about Houston's rightwing activist crowd the other day (Kuff, however, did not). One tidbit in particular that stood out for me:
If the group's members, who were furiously counting and validating signatures Tuesday, cannot get the measure on the November ballot, she said they would fight White's attempts this year to change a revenue-cap provision in the city charter."That's the only option they've given us if we want to fight back," she said.
The only option? ... to fight back? Against what? The group's initial issue is with immigration - namely, the fact that HPD isn't doing the job that Homeland Security should. So if they can't stomp their feet to the ballot box in order to vent their angst, they're going to "fight back" on Mayor White's limitations to the RevCap strictures.
What does that have to do with immigration? Nothing. Which just goes to show you that what motivates these people isn't any intrinsic belief in the issue itself. No, what drives them to this degree of insanity is that Bill White is a popular mayor. Last I checked, all the anti-Bill White crowd could muster in the past election was roughly 10 percent (less actually, but I'll allow for statistical anomolies).
There's a reason the anti-White crowd is properly designated as "fringe."
