Ron Paul: For Impeachment
A while back, our Republican friend/blogger/political consultant in Fort Bend county thought he'd get a kick out of poking fun at Shane Sklar for having the nerve to run against his favorite Congressman/family friend:
Poor Shane Sklar. A fella who's barely older than yours truly, takes his first step out of the world of political lobbying and runs for Congress with a campaign plan of out-conservative-ing the incumbent, and attempting to portray him as ineffectual. Riiiight....
Shane, my boy? When a district's listed by the TLC as 63% GOP, its doing a little bit more than leaning.
And you've just got to step back and laugh when you read Shane's rhetoric.
Shane: "Vote for me, because Ron Paul isn't in lock-step with the Republicans and President Bush! As a Democrat, I'll be your Congressman who votes consistently with the GOP and President Bush and ummmmm... (begins mumbling incoherently)"
DNC: ?Uh, Shane... please remember that the '06 midterm strategy of the Democrat party is to trick people into thinking that the Republicans are evil and corrupt and that the war on Iraq is bad for America.?
hehehe
Clearly some heady stuff out of what passes for the right wing of Lower Blogistan. But, I thought I'd take the opportunity to demonstrate precisely how Ron Paul has pretty much made the case that Chris mocked nearly a month ago:
Rep. Congressman: Impeach Bush For Violating Constitution - Not Partisan Payback Paul said that Bush should be impeached not under the umbrella of partisan vengeance but for ceaselessly breaking the laws of the land."I would have trouble arguing that he's been a Constitutional President and once you violate the Constitution and be proven to do that I think these people should be removed from office."
...
Asked what the ultimate agenda was behind the American Union and the push on behalf of the Bush administration to homogenize the US with Mexico and Canada, Paul was clear in his response.
"I think the goal is one world government - we have not only the U.N. - we have the WTO, the IMF, the World Bank, then we have all the subsidiaries like NAFTA and hemispheric governments, highways coming in."
"I just hope and pray that we can wake up enough people," said Paul, noting that Texans in his own backyard were more aware of Bush selling out the country for an American Union than anyone in Washington.
Sorta begs the question, don't it? Chris, are you aware that the President you voted for is selling out the country for an American Union? Inquiring minds want to know. ;-)
Yeah, yeah ... how many whacky fringe views can one devote time to when it comes to Ron Paul?
But as it is, Ron Paul is now running on the mind-blowing platform of impeaching George Bush, legalizing heroin, suggesting that people who live in coastal regions (of which, he represents one or two) are to blame for having the poor judgement to move to such parts, and that what America needs right now is to go back to the good ol days of The Great Depression.
So as for the taunt about how a Democrat can possibly be more in touch with a conservative district than the Republican incumbent? I think Ron Paul just made Shane Sklar's point for him.
hehehe indeed
PS: Let's start the over/under for complaints about contextwhining about 'how dare you use my own words' at about 2 hours for some sort of response ;-)
PPS: While I've been a bit swamped, I'd be remiss to pass up this gem of quotage from the aforelinked WaPo story on Ron Paul:
"He's just consistent, consistent, consistent," says Debra Medina, the Wharton County Republican chairwoman. "He always talks about the Constitution and what the federal government ought to be doing, and he consistently articulates this basic mistrust of big government, which I think most people have."...
He figures party leaders get irritated with him sometimes, but for the most part, they leave him alone. On his opposition to war in Iraq, he told a radio interviewer a few years ago, "I'm generally very much ignored." He says he doesn't trade votes and as a result is rarely pressured.
Still, he says, if his fellow Republicans are "very desperate," he may allow himself to be talked into changing a "no" vote to "present."
HA! Consistent, consistent, cons ... aw to hell with it!
One of Ron Paul's endearing qualities is that he is indeed consistent. Irrelevant, but consistent. And, to use the hackneyed phrase, "even a stopped clock is right twice a day"
If heroin were legal your neighborhood probably wouldn't be such a scary neighborhood.
Oh my...
Well, first of all you put me in a tricky position. You seamlessly merge my personal blog with the official positions of a U.S. Congressman. That takes some cajones, leaving the 'context' argument completely out of it.
I must of course, reiterate the official position that my blog is my personal opinion only, and does not reflect the views of my clients. Any questions you have over Congressman Paul should be directed to Jeff Deist, the Congressman's press secretary, or to Mark Elam, the Congressman's campaign manager - I speak for neither.
Now that we're disclaimered, I think if you listen to the entire radio interview, you will quickly find out that these are not friends of Congressman Paul. The host leads Congressman Paul with insinuations and is not above putting words in his mouth. I think the Democrats often complain about such tactics happening on the Sean Hannity show.
Furthermore, I'm mystified as to how my personal 'consistency' is tied into this interview, or for that matter, how my personal 'consistency' is tied into any politician, be they friend or foe.
Of course, when I recognize the source of the attack on me - I don't expect much in the way of consistency... after all, you are the one who cast your last vote for U.S. Congress based on how "hot" the candidate was. Mm-hmmm.

And I was starting to feel left out... after your recent launches into Dr. Whited, I was wondering if we were still friends. Glad to see nothing has changed. =)
But hearkening back to the Stacey Bourland incident... perhaps this sheds more light on the obsession that certain Donk bloggers have with Sklar. Many folks on your side believe that he fills out a pair of jeans much nicer than Dr. Paul. Which may or may not explain why you like him so much.

Glad to see you evolve from whining about context to the bold step of gay humor. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
Ironic that you'd point to the fact that I refuse to vote for a Congressman that I have fundamental differencs with (which led to the infamous Bourland incident). Clearly, that hasn't stopped you from counting such folks as clients. Still a ways to go, Chris ... still a ways to go.
Anyways, carry on with your efforts to support members of Congress who favor impeaching the President. I hear Queen Sheila might need a mail vendor this cycle. I'll see if I can pass along a good word for ya ;-)
Glad to see there's no love lost here. =)
Thanks for your unsolicited opinions on your views of me! Entertaining and enlightening as usual.
Gosh, after such a rousing endorsement from one of Osteen's biggest admirers, maybe I should give Lakewood a try. I can just feel the sarcasm... er... love, from the champion in you.
It's an idea ... we could swap churches and maybe I'd see where you get such rich gay humor from?
I'm more (well, less) interested to see where THIS comes from.
"Greg Wythe supports this idea... but he's fighting an uphill battle. Never underestimate the power of those addicted to goat sex."

Yikes!
What? I clearly thought I caught your good side in that shot.
I'm sorry. I don't think I quite understand. I am most certainly not in this picture of 'goat sex' that resides on your server, and on which, you have made the above comment. My wife has already seen this picture and shared a chuckle over it earlier this evening. I think she would have recognized me if I were in this picture of 'goat sex' on your server, with the above comment.
Are you trying to imply something or perhaps make a joke?
Lakewood seems curiouser and curiouser to me... I'm hoping the message isn't - "Your best goat now."
Chris, Chris, Chris ... don't be shy. It's a good photo. Show some pride in your work. People will eventually be forgiving of your previous work in the goat sex industry.
Oh, and whatever you do, Chris ... just don't link to this:

I'll forever be embarrassed!
Ok...so I am goofing off at work and doing some searches for the reading challenged (my nephew has some issues) and came across this site. Maybe it's really bad form for me to chime in like this when I don't know anything about what goes on here, but after reading through the comments just on the front page, it seems you argue MUCH with your commenters. You never seem to read what they're saying. You never seem to try to understand what they're saying. It all seems to be about getting over...or gotcha moments...even when you're obviously wrong or know less than the commenter. And...worse than all that, it comes across to the casual passer by as really hateful.
What does the above commenter mean when he says you go to Joel's church? How can that be?
Examples please. Or would this just be an effort to try and "get over" as well?
I'm all for the legalization of heroin. That was just random, wasn't it.
