Dean on Bigots
The Raw Story | Dean calls justification used in New York ruling on gay marriage 'bigoted, outdated'
... and occassionally, Howard Dean reminds us all of what a flaming disappointment he can be whenever he starts to talk about issues rather than organizing:
"Today's decision by the New York Court of Appeals, which relies on outdated and bigoted notions about families, is deeply disappointing, but it does not end the effort to achieve this goal."Dean went on to call for the New York State legislature to change the laws to "protect the equal rights of every New Yorker," and "to proceed without the rancor and divisiveness that too often surrounds this issue."
Amazing quotage here with regard to this story on the New York Supreme Court deciding that there's nothing in the state constitution that allows for marriage to be defined any differently than between a man and a woman.
And yet, the irony is astounding in its brazeness ... proceed without "diviseness" in reversing a "bigoted" decision? Physician, heal thyself!

From May of this year:
"The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says marriage is between a man and a woman," Dean said May 10 during a "700 Club" program hosted by conservative Christian leader Pat Robertson on his Christian Broadcasting Network.
That statement contradicts the Democratic National Committee's official stance, adopted in 2004. The '04 party platform indicates that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states to resolve, taking no position on whether or not states should marry same-sex couples.
I'm sorry; that second paragraph should be in italics, as it's all part of the linked text.
Allowing the law to rest with the legislature is hardly bigoted..
I am not "anti-gay", but this was the right ruling
Gay marriage has the potential to divide the Democratic base and eliminate the possibility of red state gains. I have no problem with equal employment opportunities for gays, increased funding for AIDS research and favor vigorous prosecution of violent crimes motivated by the victim's sexual orientation. That being said, the reality is that gay marriage is both bad politics and public policy.
