Let the Silly Season Begin!
Chron.com | Many show interest in seat left vacant by DeLay
David Wallace: "I'm running for that spot."
Tom Campbell: also running
Shelley Sekula-Mellencamp: "I'm saddened that the congressman has decided to step down, but I'm interested in the position."
Robert Eckels: "I do have an interest in at least looking at the race."
Well, at least Kyle Janeck's website didn't get an instant makeover. Just his way of toying with the rest of the world? We'll see.
But the obvious conclusion is that it'll be a big herd going into the special election ... at least on the GOP side. That's good for Lampson at making the cut for the runoff almost regardless of whoever gets in with a (D) next to their names. But does that mean we get a replay of the 1961 fiasco for filling LBJ's seat? Time'll tell.

I like Wallace for the spot.
Anyone who ran against DeLay in a primary last month doesn't deserve his seat.
Right of Texas:
That is precisely the sort of thought from the GOP establishment that will result in a Nick Lampson win.
The culture amongst Republicans doesn't seem to allow for internal dissent, which is apparent from the manner in which they participate in (or attempt to stifle) political discourse with those who disagree with them.
While its clear that the voters of TX-22 have traditionally voted Republican, I think it's equally clear that the vast majority of voters are NOT party insiders or loyalists who will vote Republican come hell or high water. DeLay only received 65% in his own primary, and he admitted himself that there was about a 50/50 chance he would lose.
A Republican who ran against DeLay and opposed him while he remained in power is exactly the sort of candidate that Republican voters will embrace.
Of course, I'm not going to complain if you guys go ahead and shoot yourself in the foot in this election. I wouldn't mind that one bit.
