One Concluding Thought on Soechting

This might be worthwhile news if it weren't for the fact that Charles Soechting just shot his own foot earlier by endorsing the de facto Republican in the race for HD146.
Really about all that can be said about Soechting. He doesn't deserve any greater publicity when his track record as party leader is now a series of failures punctuated by an exclamation mark of a sellout.

Why are people so shocked that a 20-year Democratic National Committee member has Democractic Party support? This anti-Al stuff is odd.
apparently, he has 48% Democratic support within his own district. Given Al's very GOP-friendly voting record the past few years, that's a far cry from odd.
interesting that you are so down on soechting, but still seem to think his hand picked successor is the best guy for the job. looking to repeat what we have just gone through?

my apologies for what seemed like (and maybe was??) an attack. Maybe I just read too damn many blogs...because I know I have read bloggers supporting Soechting's hand picked successor...but now I cant even figure out where I read it. Maybe I confused it with your support of bell and his support of Richie? who knows...
I too havent made up my mind on who to support in the race, and yes I have a vote, it just seems hard to support someone who is so tied up on "the establishment" when "the establishment" is getting us know where. What to do. what to do.
Well, not unlike your own thoughts, I can't claim to really have any hard & fast opinion on what difference it makes who's in charge of the party at this point. We've tried the "up & coming star" model with Bill White. We've tried the "reformed Republican" model with Molly Beth. We've tried the "guy with deep pockets" approach with Soechting. And at the end of the day, none of them really seemed to have an answer.
At this point, I'm not entirely sure that Richie or Maxey do either. And I'm also not entirely sure what relevence it will make if either is in charge. There's no money for the State Party to really claim to be doing much for candidates. There's no real resources outside of basic data that they have to offer. So color me doubtful. I have some good friends who put in a lot of quality time doing their damnest with the TDP and I'd love to see their work make a difference and matter.
But the real question is whether the concept of a State Party is really relevant anymore. I think it's that point that Jerome and Markos really left only lightly touched on in "Crashing the Gate." Effectively, the state party chair now is Fred Baron. Like it or not.
