The Race for the Most Meaningless Countywide Office

Chron.com | Treasurer's post draws contentious GOP battle

Lori Rodriguez has two-thirds of a quality report here on the race for Harris County Treasurer. She covers the Jack Cato-Orlando Sanchez tiff in fair detail, but omits one bit of information that might come in handy in light of the fact that the office of Treasurer being abolished at the state level and by half a dozen counties in Texas.

Democratic candidate Richard Garcia, who merits a mere one sentence at the end of the article ... is the only candidate running on the promise to abolish the office. Considering that Lori puts in two grafs mentioning the places where the office has been abolished and one more covering the fact that both Republican candidates are in favor of maintaining the position, it sure does strike me as a curious omission ... especially if you're one who believes the Chron is a liberal newspaper.

SIDENOTE: Last few days of early voting here, and still too many endorsements hanging out there to be made by the Chron's editorial board. What a joke.
