Worst. Peggy Noonan. Ever.
Seriously? This passed review at the WSJ Editorial board?
Can media bias be detected in the endless coverage? Sure, always. But it's also a great story....
But as a scandal I'm not sure it has a big future.
...
But what are they thinking that they're not saying? Here's a hunch, based not on any inside knowledge but only on what I know of people who practice politics, and those who practice it within the Bush White House.
I suspect what they're thinking and not saying is, If Dick Cheney weren't vice president, who'd be a good vice president? They're thinking, At some time down the road we may wind up thinking about a new plan. And one night over drinks at a barbecue in McLean one top guy will turn to another top guy and say, "Under the never permeable and never porous Dome of Silence, tell me . . . wouldn't you like to replace Cheney?"
So, ummm ... let's review, shall we?
The endless parade of stories is an exhibition of media bias ... but it's a good story. As a scandal, it has no future, but based on everything I know about politics, someone's plotting to replace Dick Cheney.
And, for the love of all things Jack Daniels, will someone kindly inform me why it is that every Peggy Noonan column sees fit to involve folks enjoying a snifter of port after dinner? ... or, in this case, a BBQ?
Sadly, there's scores of paragraphs devoted to fleshing out the theory of this "scandal with no big future" leading to a certain type of replacement Veep. For an idea with no future, I'm curious why Peggy saw fit to spill so much ink over the notion.
