Funny ... read the last letter to Chronicle Reader's Rep and tell me it doesn't seem as if there's some cutting and pasting of talking points by the right going on here:
Can we please get some balanced reporting! I've heard nothing but ''news'' and opinion about Tom Delay and $67,000 in contributions since 1997 from indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Yet the same ''balanced'' press reporting doesn't mention that Democrat Senate Leader Harry Reid of Nevada received $$66,000 in Abramoff-related donations in just a two-year period from 2001 to 2004 [Washington Post, 11/18/05]. It's big news that Tom DeLay was Abramoff's guest at skyboxes Abramoff maintained at MCI Center and the Redskins' FedEx Field, but never mentioned that Sen. Tom Harkin, D-IA, twice used Abramoff's skybox for fundraisers in 2002 and again in 2003 without reimbursing [USA Today, 12/3/05]. You might point out that Delay is well-down the list in total Abramoff contributions from such officials as Sen. Dorgan, D-ND, who got nearly $95,000 in Abramoff-related money between 2001 and 2004 [AP, 11/24/05]. Finally it could be noted that Tom Delay is 18th ($28,000) on the total contributions list of individuals since 1999 behind such Representatives as Patty Murray. D-Wa., ($40,980), Patrick J. Kennedy, D-RI, ($33,000), Charles B. Rangel, D-NY,($32,000), and Sen. Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat($30,500). Come on guys ? you're better than this...
