Chron Endorsements: B, C, & F
Via Kuff, I've let this one go under my radar. Of note is the endorsement in District C of Mark Lee.
Let's put this out there right away ... there's some good candidates in C irrespective of one's ideological preference. That Mark gets the nod among some of the more partisan endorsing bodies shouldn't suprise much. This one, however, should. I'm well on record as not envying the decision of District C Dems. Mark Lee and Herman Litt are both quality candidates to choose from and I'm still not sure who I'd choose from if required. I'll leave it as a tie and let the good citizens of District C decide it for themselves.
Beyond even those two, there's plenty of good candidates in this race. Aside from the annoyance of watching George Hittner raise more money than a Rockefeller, I'd be hard pressed to identify too many issues where he's objectionable. And while Anne Clutterbuck's resume is solidly 'Republican,' her community work is just as solidly 'Houstonian.' And I'm already well on record as having good things to say about Brian Cweren in prior posts. It's enough to make one wonder what the downside is for District C residents in this election.
District B ... I'm with Kuff on the big question mark over our heads. If endorsements matter in this one, it looks like the tide is against making this the Galloway District by way of electing the incumbent's daughter. Wait and see, though. Like C, this one almost definitely will be decided in December.
District F, I'm more familiar with. And despite MJ Khan being a fairly decided Republican, it's hard to find too much fault with his first term of office. If there's a fault with Khan, it's his wishywashiness in trying to support both sides of an issue. For now, that's a failing that's landed him more ire from the right than from the left, however.
Still, I can find fault with this blurb of the Chron's endorsement of Khan:
He views Council as a full-time job and devotes his time to it accordingly.
Yeah, unless he's flirting with a citywide run, as he was at one point in the season. District F ought to be high atop Democrats' wishlist for Council districts to pick up at some point in the future. The votes are there for someone willing to work for them. If not, the GOP voters in this decidedly Democratic district will be happy to claim it.
