WaPo on Sudan: A Bit Too Congratulatory

Genocide, One Year On

Huge problem with this editorial (and as an added bonus, add this to the "What Liberal Bias?" files). Eric Reeves has a far better read on the state of recent affairs in Sudan. Short version is that while much of the slaughter, rape, and other killings we commonly identify as garden variety genocide have stopped, they've stopped because there's already been a critical threshold of Sudanese population driven from their homes, camping out across the border in Chad, or already dead. As even the WaPo editorial notes, half of Darfur's population has been affected in one way or another (presumably negatively). What we have now is a genocide by attrition. Let them starve in Chad, let them continue to send their babies to get water in the morning (while they can), let them slowly die off while we congratulate ourselves for such speedy action.

Sorry, I can't go for that.
