Dan Patrick to Enter SD7?

HoustonChronicle.com - On Politics: Getting public involved in parking plan

KSEV (AM 700) radio personality Dan Patrick is considering joining the crowded Republican primary race for the seat being vacated by retiring state Sen. Jon Lindsay.

Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector Paul Bettencourt is encouraging Patrick to run. "Senate District 7 needs a conservative standard bearer," said Bettencourt.

Patrick said he plans to make up his mind within the coming weeks.

Houston City Councilman Mark Ellis and Republican state Reps. Peggy Hamric and Joe Nixon already have announced their plans to run.

I'm not entirely well versed in the professional relationships involved here, but I find it a bit of a surprise that between Joe Nixon, Peggy Hamric, Ben Streusand, John Devine, and Patricia Harless that there's a huge gaping hole of ideological thought that demands a disc jockey whose claims to fame are, in no particular order: owning a non-Clear Channel radio station (which I salute, especially since he's carried the Houston Aeros games in earlier times) and having broadcast his own vasectomy (which has always sorta freaked me out about Dan).
